Horseriding Zara

I must admit to using the term 'riding' and expect people to know that I mean riding a horse and not cycling. If I were riding a bike (heaven forbid!) I would say 'cycling'

Been thinking about it. They've got 4 legs, each joined on in different places.And they all move independently of each other. It's got to be bumpy.

I've never ridden one of the buggers though. This is pure speculation.

Horses' four legs don't move independently of each other, just as our two don't. It's team work. That aside, I agree it's probably bumpy at times. So what? So is rough cycling. So is Scottish dancing. I did my RSCDS teaching certificate (two weeks intensive course dancing jigs and reels) when I was just short of seven months pregnant with DD3. I was 44 at the time and carried on dancing, though I did slow down a bit in the last few weeks, until she was born. No problems.

I always stood up on my bike when I went over bumps. You don't want to stretch anything unnecessarily.You could get trouble later on, after menopause.

We don't actually know if she might have had a few problems during the early stages of the pregnancy; in fact there are a lot of things that may be relevant to the advice given that would not be disclosed to anyone.

What I read is that she was ignoring NHS [general] advice not to ride during pregnancy, not that she has actually been personally advised not to ride. If she's anything like what I was when pregnant, she'll be 'doing it by instinct' and not reading any general advice.

I did go to ante-natal clinics, even though my GP told me I was "the sort of woman who didn't need to go to ante-natal clinics."

My GP brother's attitude was do it if you feel like it. Stop when you don't feel like it. About anything you wished to do when pregnant. That's longhand for saying do it by instinct.

I'd assume that Zara's idea of 'riding' is probably hurling horses at 5 foot fences on a regular basis.

The poor girl who is in intensive care after the horse trials at Tweseldown is one reason why a pregnant woman might not want to ride.
One of my friends rode all through her pregnancy and was told by the midwife that she would have a difficult birth because her pelvic floor was so tough! It was a bit late to do anything about it then
