There is hardly an equivalence between the N Ireland situation and Abu Q. It's a bit like the presumption of innocence of people accused in court. Sometimes the bad guys get an advantage from this system - but if you presumed guilt, then innocent people would suffer.

Nick Clegg doesn't have principles nor do most politicians (with a few honourable exceptions) . All they care about is their own advancement and courting the electorate to achieve it.

Alan Johnson, one time Labour Home Secretary, said on 'This Week' that Labour had done exactly that, came out of the court on a temporary exit.!!

He said that the government would be mad to do it. He then went on to say that Labour had done it during the Northern Ireland troubles to enable the government to get internment through, without trial. He said they used it because it was a national issue.

It is a fact that ARTICLE 15 of the Convention DOES ALLOW a country to do this. Where there is a strict neccessity. He went on to say "To try and do it and then breach the UN Convention on Torture, which is very important would be illegal, so it would be a non starter"

Since Abu Qatada hates us with a vengeance, why on earth does he not buy he his own ticket out of this country. Ryan Air would no doubt give him a decent seat...or even a plane all to himself.

Well said,BAnanas. I would agree with anything that got this ( I can't put here what I call him) out of my country.

The answer for me is also simple, I believe in acting in the interests of the greater good. An individual who aligns themselves to a terrorist organisation whose raison d'etre is to use the excuse of a holy war to commit acts of random terrorism to kill and maim innocent people indiscriminately, does not deserve the protection of their host country.

The question is actually very simple. Do you believe it is right to torture people? My view is that it is never right. Therefore, I cannot condone any kind of trial where "evidence" is the result of torture.

Quite a temptation to Cameron, although Clegg has not proved to be much of a thorn in his side.

Italy has deported terror suspects despite rulings from the Court of Human Rights and I believe they aren't the only ones. It's these inconsistencies and the fact that we can't act in our own country's best interests that drive a lot of us nuts.

Would he be missed? Clegg that is, still can't believe, when he was asked a few years ago what he thought the weekly pension was he said "about £30 a week!" such a Richard Head!!!

Clegg can't lose - out of this government and straight into a cushy job at EU HQ!
