I watched a fascinating programme about Life magazine in America, as I am very interested in photography. They were a huge force in the US, at one time being read by half the population.
It was interesting that its demise occurred after the start of celeb culture, when they moved from chronicling real people (local GPs, drug addicts, dancers, housewives - basically "middle America") to a papparazzi approach. It seems that this was the start of the unsavoury journalism that we now know and hate. How I wish it would cause the demise of these tacky tactics now.
