Booing at the Paralympics

Apparently, when George Osborne was announced at a medal ceremony, the audience booed him and continued to do so. David Cameron's reception was mixed with some booing. Boris was cheered to the skies and even Gordon Brown got a cheer. It strikes me as very rude behaviour in the context of awarding the medals to the various athletes and swimmers.

Also, aren't there some more appropriate people than politicians for giving the medals? David Cameron and Boris Johnson can be seen as having a role in the games – but George Osborne and, just as bad, Gordon Brown?

I suppose both GO and GB as chancellors sanctioned funds for the Olympics but agree that politicians are not people I would want giving me a medal .. should I ever be a winner!

Whether or not we agree on the medal presenters - I think they were asking for trouble asking Osbourne and May to do this - I still feel it's bad manners to boo. But having good manners is old fashioned now it seems [disgruntled emoticon]

There's a time and a place for showing your political leanings. When someone is about to get their Olympic medal is not it.

I sometimes despair of the selfishness of some of the human race.

I suspect that David Cameron got a positive response only because the crowd was so excited and thrilled about Ellie's second gold medal.

Jings is so right. Ill-mannered reactions from some spectators, spoils what for the deserving medal winners should be a very special moment. I'm in awe of the contestants - remarkabe individuals, whose spirit and resolve burns like the Olympic flame. flowers
