I know...but mine started first! However as more people are posting on that one I've posted there instead. Call me flexible!

No it didn't did it....oops.

I was so upset yesterday when the DR representing the Royal College's ethics committee said that Mr Nicklinson could have done what prisoners have done in prison and go on Hunger strike. Disgusting and so insensitive and cruel.
he also said that it would be giving a licence to kill, which again is so unfair. All the current laws re disability = to the right of access to what other beings without disability can do. What more discriminatory can it be - to not help someone achieve their dearest wish, and can't, because they can't reach the switch. Appalled.

I thought the medical profession did have a licence to kill - through neglect. Thinking of all those poor dehydrated old folks in hospitals and nursing homes where lazy staff can't get off their (often) fat backsides to help them eat or drink. And what about the poor lad who even called the police because he was dying from thirst. The hospital sent them away saying it wasn't true and he did die of thirst.

Its very sad about Mr Niklinson but I did wonder why he didnt go to Exit - is it in Holland?

Exit and Dignitas are both in Switzerland, which is a very civilised country. Granjura can tell you all about it.
Tony Nicklinson's family would have found it very difficult and expensive to get him there, given the severity of his condition. And why should he have to die in a strange country?

EXIT membership is only available for people resident in Switzerland (irrespective of nationality). I consider myself very privileged to be a member. I love life and am in good health - but it is the best 'insurance' I can have, just in case.

Dignitas services are available to foreigners- but they only 'operate' from apartments in industrial estates (due to complaints from residential areas). As said, expensive to get there and almost impossible for someone in TN's physical state.

Suggesting he should have gone on (painful and perhaps lengthy) hungerstrike is so cruel - and would have been awful for his family.
