Sorry that I am so far away onlythelonely My DH has Alzheimers and it is very isolating.I hope when the weather improves you will get out and about and meet new people, in the meantime keep posting on here.

Welcome, onlythelonely. I'm sorry to hear about your husband. You must have felt isolated for a long while - now and during his illness, perhaps. I'm in Fife, but there are one or two members in Dundee who might be reading this?
I had a wee chuckle to myself when I read your post, though, only...'days out and Charlie'......not so sure about the Charlie!! !!

Anyone from or near dundee.my husband passed away October he had altzimers for three years and I have become quite isolated. My 2daughters work and have their own busy lives. Anyone interested in days out for coffee and Charlie maybe holidays.

Sounds great, I`ve never been to Holland. Mind you, I wouldn`t have minded that flight either!

The plane ride from JFK was a little over eight hours.A KLM flight..we splurged on business class seats and never got bored from being continually feed! Snack,dinner, desert,breakfast.. And a cute Dutch ceramic house filled with liquor.Stewardess reminded us to drink it before returning home.

My sister has researched our family over the years..always knew I was English but on my mothers side we are Dutch. She has been learning the language and has applied for a residency visa and work visa.i came along for the ride till I get kicked out! Lol! they seem to have more liberal visas.its beautiful here...so old! I sure am happy to get away from the heat!

No. Nottingham. She and her husband ventured south for a few years before returning home. She said they came with trepidation, but met with nothing but kindness which was lovely to hear.

Looking at a few profiles and this thread I see a lot of Fifers.

I wonder if any of you remember a wonderful woman named Karen McKechnie? She lived in St Andrews for many years and was my history teacher, and an excellent one. We corresponded for years although never met up again as we lived so far away. She died in 2007 when she was 86. Her husband taught classics.

What I find interesting is that the Scottish contingent, and associated north-easterners, still meet up and enjoy each others' company even without an active local site (it is still there, with listings of local businesses, but has not bee updated since December. The Edinburgh local forums are exceedingly quiet)

Is it because they are naturally more social than Gners in some areas? Because they first met up well before the local sites were started?

True! You can't win - either you post on the general forums under a different name, and get complaints that you are never appear, or you post as yourself and everyone knows each time you change your socks. My view was that you can hardly claim to be a rallying point for your local gransnetters if you are never visible.

I didn't know about that Elegran. But then people will think they are not posting on the general forums if they have a different name!

The local editors are allowed to have two memberships for just that reason, Starling. When I was a local editor I started a second username, but I kept mixing them up and posting on the wrong one, so I killed off the second. Everyone knew me as Elegran already and I had made no secret of the fact that I would be editing a local page, so it wasn't worth the effort.

I don't post anything too personal - but I would not have done anyway. I know how easy it is for anyone who really wants to know who and where you are to follow clues and find out.

I am a local editor in Colchester, North Essex and join in forum threads when I have something to say. I try to promote GN local as a whole on the national forum when it is appropriate and like to speak as myself not as an editor.

I do think that there could be more local chats on the local forums though...

Anyone in NE Scotland....Aberdeenshire??
