Purchases on Line

I use PayPal a lot, except for amazon and supermarket online shops who want your credit card number.

Being able to buy stuff online has been a huge blessing for me - living in the middle of nowhere and with problematical mobility.

Sometimes I feel a bit guilty about it as I am aware of the various drawbacks, but I hope I make up for it in other ways - I do not use aeroplanes for instance and recycle like mad.

I am not a shopper but dislike all the hassle when goods have to be returned, so, if I need something very specific, a specific door knob, an ash bucket and a radiator shelf were recent buys, then I go online, but otherwise I find it less hassle to go out and look for it.

Fortunately where we now live now there is a large retail park 10 miles away with many of the main clothes retailers and to get there I drive past 2 very large supermarkets known for their clothes ranges. A couple of afternoons there every year sorts my wardrobe out.

On holiday I like to go round the supermarkets rather than amrkets. It tells you more about the lives and living habits of local people and what they eat than do the markets.

Credit card or sign up for paypal, with either you get buyer protection when purchasing online.

Soon there will be no shops left and on-line shopping will cease to be cheap and convenient.

I just use my debit card for on-line purchases, which are very few and usually for gifts to send to people I don't live near.

Although food shopping is a chore, I do like the interactions at the check-out with the young people you get to know after a while. It is much better than having to be in at certain times to get your food delivered which looks very unappetising in those crates they leave on your doorstep with minimal inter-action.

I don't do much shopping otherwise because there isn't that much stuff I really need- shopping for shoes isn't easy these days either!

I do buy on line for some items, various sites can have the product cheaper. If I'm not familiar with the site I use Trustpilot to see how they rate them, a couple of times I've not pursued the intended purchase through bad reviews and ratings. Mostly on line purchases are with well established well known brands. I prefer to frequent actual shops but like many, my habits changed during lockdown and then came familiar how an item hard to source on the high street is sometimes s easier to get hold of on line.

Me too. I hate shopping, but enjoy a very occasional browse around a market or holiday street. Home delivery changed my life for the better.

Am with you there Cossy. Hate shopping and am only to glad to stay away from the Malls and have it delivered to my door. And is quite easy to return these days

The problem with using Paypal is that if the product you buy costs over £100 and the goods are unsatisfactory and the supplier will not repay you, you cannot claim back on your credit card because Paypal made the payment to the supplier and you only paid Paypal with your creditcard, not the supplier.

I had a non-supply and no refund situation some years ago when I ordered a lot of plants. I was able to claim back through my credit card because I had paid the supplier direct with the card.

The way round that is to use PayPal credit for purchases. Then you still have section 75 protection as well as the convenience of PayPal.

That is untrue. You can claim back through PayPal and Apple Pay (possibly other payment services too). That’s why I use them. A debit card won’t offer that service unless it was fraud, and I don’t like using credit cards (anyway, the only guarantee for purchases over £100). A company offering PayPal is usually a good sign that they are honest.

I too much prefer to see things feel the quality and try it on if it’s clothes but our town is so limited with shops now that you have to buy on line and then all the added expense of sending it back if it’s not right Drives me insane although I ve resorted to it for years now

I use PayPal the lady at the bank told me that was the safest way as I had my credit card hacked, all was sorted and they only got away with three small amounts ( they build up to the big one) and that was refunded it could only have happened online as I only use my credit card personally for anything big and I d bought nothing big for a long time
The lady at the bank said she had been hacked the week before so what hope is there for us
If you do use your Credit card and the site asks if you want them to remember your number say no
It’s the only time it’s happened to me and I ve been buying on line for years and years
