How long do you keep paperwork

I suppose it depends if you have on line accounts if you do why would you want to keep paper copies.
If you don’t then keeping the last year would be helpful
I am presuming these are personal accounts not business.

Trying to sort out my affairs. How long do you advise keeping old bank and credit card statements before shredding. I know to keep tax returns for 7 years.
