BlueBelle, when my daughter was renting years ago, she always complained that her flat was cold because the storage heaters were not working properly , so we bought her an electric blanket for her bed.

We’ re with British Gas, pay quarterly, our winter gas and electric bill (November to February) was £110 per month. Not on any tariff. Turn on heating about 7 hours per day.

Our house is a 1960s 4 bed semi .

I was lucky to fix mine last May for 2 years but I still pay £164 per month for Gas and electricity. Dread to think what it will be when that expires in 2023.

grandmabatty you seem to be doing well. Our monthly dd is going from £82 to £165. But our kWh rate is now fixed for 12 months. If I have understood, there’s every chance variable rates will go up again in October. Just in time for winter.

Are these all increases due to start in April? That is when the cap is due to be raised. Don't forget to read your meters (and send in the reading) on 31 March. Otherwise they will estimate the proportion before and after 1 April.

Wow! I don't think I could go without Central heating Bluebell now, but we all did it when we were kids and never though anything about it.

I don’t have any central heating Tanith which I think makes all the difference I only heat one room and I m so used to it it’s fine for me I couldn’t afford to have central heating put in it’s a big house and the heat would get lost and be wasted
My daughter has turned her heating off now and won’t use it again as she simply can’t afford to heat the house for herself The children have left for work and Uni so we ll all have to find other ways to keep warm I guess

Shandy pipes freeze at freezing temperature whether they are indoors or outdoors.

0 degrees. Or 32 Fahrenheit if my memory serves me? But I might be wrong on the Fahrenheit one.

Mine was £91 on a fix for both electric and gas, expired end January.

Shell Energy said will now be £210, but I put the DDR at £200 a month, will see how it goes.

What a worry all this is. I am with Eon but haven't heard anything yet. I just dread it.

I don't know what temperature pipes freeze at, but it brought back to me memories of my grandma who would never visit at Christmas in case the pipes froze!

I meant to add that I have noticed a lot less 'light' on my evening dog walks. In the past lots of houses would be illuminated, now it seems to be just one room. I do think everyone is concerned.

Yes, unfortunately it will be heating or eating for many.

What I can't find out, is what temperature internal pipes freeze at, does anyone know? As so many homes only had a coal fire in the past why didn't their pipes freeze? Or did they?

Jaxjacky. Ooh that’s a big increase of £870. Our annual bill will be £3,200. Our house in1968 cost £3,000.!,, I don’t know how they expect us to magic this money from. And I don’t want a loan of £200. We only have to pay back on top of all the other increased bills.

My monthly DD for my gas an electricity was put up from £20 a month to £50 a month now I m £272 in Credit so after this next bill I will be asking for some back and put my DD down a bit

I am keeping a very close eye on my usage, pretty well normal usage for me but some tweaks such as an air fryer instead of an oven. I want to remain in credit and adjusted my monthly payment to £85. I may put it up to £95 by mid summer if see my credit disappear. My projected annual cost for both electric and gas is £1010. It used to be around £760

We are with EON. It’s gone from £164. To £267. , bread and dripping for tea !! I would query it but I can never get through , to EON. maybe that why , they don’t want people coming on complaining. £103 per month increase. ?

Ours is going up from £630 last year to a projected £1500.

Mine is going from £85 to £127 a month. Tisha can shove his £200 'loan' where the sun don't shine.

I’m with Ovo too, ours has gone up from £45 per Month to £119. We will see if this is enough, at the moment we are in credit , once that’s used up I’m sure we will have to pay more.

I dread to think how much the oil will cost for the heating.
