when That poor dog, waiting for you to get organised. I feel more virtuous now, having had a shower, put the dishes in the dishwasher and put some soup on to cook. Tidying has some way to go.

I have been married twice and on neither occasion did I think about property inheritance. It's true that I didn't own a house or much else apart from lots of shoes and clothes at the time of my first marriage. However, when I married my present husband I was 47 and lived in a moderately large house in West London that I had bought outright with no mortgage four years earlier. I flatter myself that he didn't marry me for my money or my house.

My parents split the house in to tenants in common ownership.
Mum left her half of the house to me and I inherited it when she passed away early in 2004. My wife had passed away.
Dad was in the house by himself and I got early retirement in 2004 in London and my daughters had settled in Birmingham near where Dad lived.
Dad and I discussed the situation and we agreed that my house in London should be sold and I should go and live with Dad as a joint owner.
Dad later befriended this lady and told her at the start I owned half the house and there was no prospect of any marriage etc.
She knew I was living there and did not stay overnight at any point and also knew I had spent 70k on the house.
Suddenly she demanded I left and took our dog with me as she did not like dogs.
Before I could speak Dad said this was not going to happen and she left.
This was nearly 3 years before Dad died.
She then suddenly came back demanding the house in spite of the fact Dad had willed his half to me and she had about 20 supporters.
For about 10 months I could not step out of the house without somebody demanding I hand the house over to her.
This has however been gradually frizzling out as I think they realised she was not going to get anything.

Well it sounds as if Frank has one supporter (the "lady" in the pub) - be careful she's not after your London pension, Frank.

I think we have reached the ultimate definition of the 'pub bore'.

Frank's saga about his house seems to have gone on forever and I still don't feel clear on the detail ( I ask myself why I want to be ) am I right in thinking Frank inherited the house, no dispute over the will, just nastiness about his father's disposition of his property? So no-one could have 'got the house off him' in reality? But local people who actually know the real Frank have been complaining about him? And he's glad that one of them is dead? Not The Lord of the Rings, then.

Do you mean trying to get me and Andie turfed out of the house when we had nowhere else to go.

She did know that I had a legal title to the house but I sometimes wonder if she understood as she kept on referring to it as my father's house.

Well I had a nice meal last night. I would not normally celebrate this sort of incident but she has caused me a great amount of hustle and distress.
Oddly I met a woman at the pub and I thought I recognised her face.
She had heard about the situation as she was a member at the social club my father was a member of.
She said she was a little worried but heard I had a title to half the house.
She said she did not renew her membership in view of the number of supporters my fathers ex had as that club.
In her view it was totally wrong somebody should try to take the offspring's inheritance and when I mentioned the £70,000 which his ex knew I had spent on the house she thought that was absolutely despicable somebody would try to do that.
She was of the same view as me.
Dad's ex wanted me to pay the bills to bring the house up to a good standard and hoped she could in some way get ownership of the house.
