There is a firm that does panels rather than tiles.,
Has anyone had panels?,

There was a subject a couple of years ago in one of the news papers, it said conservatories could knock off up to £15k of the price off a house
I think that’s a load of rubbish, tbh.
It’s like having an extra room in the house.
We have our air conditioning unit pumped in, in the conservatory that does the whole ground floor, & heated flooring in the winter.
It’s our favourite room in the house as it’s like being sat in the garden the whole year round.

We’ve just had to have our conservatory replaced and went for one with a tiled roof and skylights in it. It is a very large space and was the cheapest quote we had and we don’t regret it so far. The house is slightly darker but the pay off is that it’s nowhere near as hot. We used a company that fitted a Supalite roof. You could check out this link and find a local company that does it, maybe. You don’t need planning permission, but the company must do it according to existing building regs,

Yes we did it too. Best thing we ever did. Our old conservatory leaked from the roof. Had all replaced windows, doors and new roof with sky vista windows. No heat loss in winter. A lovely useable room in all seasons. Well worth the investment.

Did you have to go through building regs?
Like ours doing, but DH said no, as he too thinks the dining area will look too dark.

No, no to building regs because the structure was already there. We kept the same footprint but removed the rotten windows and roof and replaced them. The difference is amazing.

My SiL and MiL both had theirs done . Much better, they just used a local firm.

I had my perspex type roof replaced with insulated UPVC panels that were white on the inside, these were supposed to better insulated and they are a little bit but not a huge amount, it was very very expensive. I wished I had gone for a tiled roof my neighbour had a few years later it looks much nicer and was actually cheaper.

We though about 25 years ago about having a Conservatory, but my cousin who is an Architect said have a "Sunroom" basically a Conservatory with a soiled roof and more structural brickwork, at the time cost wise it was very similar.

So pleased we went down that route it's been all weather use. My next door neighbour now is having there Conservatory replaced to be similar to ours, as in the past couple of years it's been too hot to use.

My DD's house had on in situ when they bought it, but they too have had the Roof changed so it can be used most of the year for the children to use as a play room.

We decided to go down that route over ten years ago, and it was one of the best moves we made. It’s cooler in the summer (mind you, not by much this year as there’s still a lot of glass!) and warmer in the winter. It did make the dining room a bit darker, but it’s not been much of a downside. When we had it installed, we had people knocking on the door to ask about it, and suddenly they were appearing everywhere.

We decided not to go with the large national firms but found a reputable firm fairly local to us who were prepared to put us in touch with people who they had carried out installations for, one of whom invited us to see the finished article.

Our friend , an ex builder, did his own and recommends light tiles.
I’ll get a few quotes and find a reputable firm locally.

My friend has had hers done , it looks and feels very good.
I thought it would make the room darker but it doesn’t at all.

My DH has such a roof but has been told the structure below wouldn't support a tiled roof.

Gangster, we are in the same situation.
It is unbearable in hot weather!
