Two single instead of one double duvet experiences, please.

Separate duvets work best if one of you needs a warmer duvet and another one likes a cooler one. Great for those with hot flushes. But one large duvet is good in winter to keep each other warm if you both feel cold.

We have been using single duvets for a few years now. My DH is a duvet thief and I got fed up waking up cold in the middle of the night. Now we have our own duvets and can chose the tog. Doesn't stop us having cuddles and more, whenever we want. We always use matching duvet covers and I can change the bed all by myself now, if need be.

DH complains about always being cold - I am the opposite. This has worked well for us and no more quilt stealing either!

Well, I was totally tangled up in my quilt last night and what wasn’t wrapping itself round me was lurching towards the floor. . This may take some practise!

We bought two singles that zipped together with a single duvet each. When I left him - the man was a rat - I unzipped my half and took it with me. DH and I have a 5 foot bed with a king size quilt. Bliss. Problem with with single duvets is that there always seemed to be a gap in the middle of the bed and you can't snuggle cosily.

I used singles on a kingsize bed when husband was ill. All tge meds made him sweat a lot needing bedding changed every day. Did find it easier to cope with all tge changes but never looked as nice as one duvet.

Hubby and I each have our own duvet. I prefer a wool insert and hubby is happy with a light synthetic fibre insert. Hubby sleeps with his feet sticking out, he is 6 foot 6, and I tuck my feet in. I also sleep with a top sheet. We have single matresses too, hubby's one being for a heavier person than mine.

We've got a superking bed with 2 pairs of single Night Owl coverless duvets - summer weight & winter weight. We love them, so snuggly & no duvet theft going in in the middle of the night! Love the coverless duvets too, no more wrestling with the awful covers!

I get really hot at night and usually sleep under just a sheet or a very thin duvet, my husband likes more weight, particularly in the winter. We solve this by him sleeping under a fairly lightweight single duvet with the main kingsize one on top. (We tried it the other way round but the smaller one kept on sliding off!).

Mallin, are we the only country where breakfast doesn’t look like afternoon tea? The English and US guests went for the hot food option most days rather than cakes and chocolate mousse.

We did this and I loved it but the DH found his too small. At the time I was reluctant to go back to a single double duvet but our bed was over 6ft so he had a double and I had a single. Now we have a 5ft bed, I am forever finding myself sleeping with 2 duvets when he throws his into the middle of the bed which gets a bit hot.

We are the only country in Europe where cheese isn’t normal for breakfast and a quilt each

Everyone should have their own duvet. I like to wrap myself up like I’m in a cocoon 😆, others like to have their feet free - and no one will steal your blankie.

I've done this for years. I can have my thin cotton duvet all year round and DH can stay warm under as many togs as he likes.

I hate it when we are in a hotel and I have to share a hot duvet.

We travelled a lot in Germany, Austria and Holland in the 70s and they always had two single duvets on a bed. My Dutch friends used to throw them out of the window every day. You would see everyone in the street left their duvets handing out of dormer windows onto the roof.

We lived in Germany for 6 years from 1977. A typical Germany double bed was a bed frame with 2 single mattresses, so not only did we have a single duvet each we also had our own mattress. Since then we have visited Germany whenever we can and in some hotels, usually the more traditional type, we still find individual mattresses in one frame with single mattresses, and in some places we had a 'normal ' double or king size bed.

My DH and I share a super king bed with separate mattresses. We have a single duvet cover each and really dislike sharing a double duvet when on holiday! (He hogs it!!!)

My husband and I always had 2 single beds pushed together and a single duvet each. When he became ill and needed more space in the room we just removed one bed. In my opinion single items are much more practical.
What I found interesting when I first arrived in the UK was that many beds had a bedspread. I'm not sure that is still the case.

We have a 5' Tempur adjustable bed that we operate individually.
We have a 3' cotton jersey duvet each (1 tog M&S) for cooler weather we also have a 5' decorative duvet cover which we have a 5' duvet in. We have single mattress covers, bottom sheets and obviously a pillow case each. This makes it easy to make each bed and can be laundered for each of us separately. It's really comfortable and we've done this for the last 10+ years, since I needed an electric adjustable bed. It's bliss!

For me, single bed, double duvet.

Lived in Germany for many years, had a husband who took the duvet with him when he turned. Result, one each, they were, are, I still have them, 2mx2m called french sized, solved the problem, also, I didn't need same weight, each to their own, mine was down his was silk. Worked well. Ok, Double laundry but marriage beds in Germany are effectively two single beds/mattresses, within a single frame. Each can be adjusted height wise, head or feet to your wish, and no rolling into the middle because mattress gone soft. Each has their own bed, individual taste and needs, slept very well. Married life great.

Works for us too. Husband likes a thicker, warmer duvet than me and doesn't want to change at the same time. Besides which he no longer turns over and takes the whole duvet with him...

We use single duvets and have done for some years. OH likes a higher Tog than I do and the smaller ones are so much easier to launder.
Having our own duvet does prevent that "tog-o-war" during the night too

We've been using two single sets of bedlinen for a while. It is much easier when washing/drying/ironing and making up the bed. We have a large double, made up of two separate mattresses (medium firmness and soft). It also helps to have your own tog rated duvet as I get very warm and often do not have a duvet at all, just a sheet and a throw. Makes sense to me.
