Kettles - how old is yours

My kettles never last very long either. I think they’re designed to fail, and they can’t be repaired. Russell Hobs used to good, but I refuse to buy one now because they fail after a year.

I had a lovely cheap glass one from Asda which started leaking I've now got a Breville. Mine usually last a couple of years.

And can I also give a mention to a kettle my son bought me years ago. Not very efficient and didn’t last long but I’Ve never been able to bin it because I think it’s a design classic. Maybe toaster will join it…

Can I just give my dear old toaster a good send off on here before I bin it. Farewell old friend….

That's what happened with ours. It was probably about 6 years old.

We bought a Breville about 8 months ago and I thought it had stopped working yesterday but DH sorted it!

I too don't have kettle but a boiler tap. It gives boiling water and filtered drinking water. It is very handy when cooking veg etc and makes a great cup of tea. I have to replace the filter every year but apart from that there is very little maintenance. I wouldn't be without mine.

I had my last kettle for nearly three years. My new one is a couple of months old but I dropped it at the weekend and broke the lid so already need a new one. Arthritic hands are a nuisance!

I haven’t had a kettle for over 25 years, I am on my second boiling water tap. Thoroughly recommend them (current one is a quooker).

I think my old kettle is in the garage somewhere.

I change the colour of my kettle/toaster every time I change the colour of my kitchen walls so every couple of years,at the minute they are pale green am looking at pale blue for next year.

What is it with kettles, they don’t last for two minutes? Washing machines, cookers, dishwashers, irons - they all go on for ever. It doesn’t matter how much you spend. Our Dualit kettle packed up after four years and when I checked reviews for other makes, they were all the same - complaints about the short life. My cooker, dishwasher and washing machine are all around twenty years old, never serviced and just go on and on. I hate electric kettles.

Had my £5 Argos kettle about 3 years and still going strong I bought my daughter an expensive Russel Hobbs set kettle toaster etc and they went wrong very quickly the kettle particular i d never bother with a posh make again

Is the boiling water actually boiling? Will my be as good as with a kettle?

Kalu, good morning. I wonder if you could tell me more about your *hot water tap*as I have thought about getting one. How much after care is involved, please, ie servicing? Did you purchase online or locally, do you recommend the tap? TIA.

I have a black Breville which I wish would expire so I can have a coloured one. All my appliances are black and my new kitchen is Gray. I think it needs a bit of colour.

My kettles don’t seem to last very long. But my toaster broke tonight which is upsetting as I’ve had it for years. It even carried on working after it burst into flames a couple of years ago. Bought it when my son moved back home after leaving university so I feel rather sad about it.

I haven’t used a kettle for years now as I had a Hot Tap installed when we rejigged the kitchen. Instant boiling/cold water ‘on tap’.

I’m using a brushed steel kettle I bought in 2001 so 20 years old now. I’m now thinking of getting a water boiler machine thingy as the arthritis in my hands is getting worse and the kettle is now too heavy for me.

We have a whistling kettle for the gas range that must be over 20 years old. There's an electric one in the cupboard but it rarely comes out.

I've had my Alessi whistling kettle on the hob for 11 years and it's as good as new. Works just as well on induction as it did on Gas.

I really liked my glass kettle which lit up in blue as it boiled, but, got rid of it because it showed all the lime scale (didn't think of that) . frequently descaling it.... got a small russell hobbs which has marks for one cup or two.

Mine never seem to last more than 15 months

Mine is Italian and is used on the hob. Had it 4 years and still as good as new.

I used to buy Russell Hobbs and they would stop working at 13 months old, I then bought a Sainsburys own brand and it's at least 13 years old!
