Kitchen cupboards paint

Have you considered replacing the doors only- not the number of cupboards? I suppose there is a special paint but I am afraid I do not have a clue.

I think you can have them spray painted with a special finish these days. DD had the windows of the front of her house done with similar to car paint. I think it is similar to what is used for the cupboards - could you do a bit of Googling?

My GS is a decorator and for the last 6 mths has been using a new spraying technique he said the results are excellent especially on kitchen cabinets and front doors.
I’d find someone who does this for an estimate.

I've just moved into my bungalow and have a cheap MDF vinyl covered kitchen. I'm just about to paint it with the Frenchchic Alfresco paint which is water resistant. I've bought an oval Frenchchic brush, as well as rollers. As it's MDF I have to use the Frenchic finishing coat first.

I’m on a Frenchic paint Facebook page and people are painting everything. I still distrust how durable it is. And it takes 3 weeks to harden properly.

I had a decorator paint mine last year, it was a disaster, within three weeks it was a mess, you only had to touch them for paint to come off. Every night before I went to bed, I’d go around touching it up.
Then I found a man who sprayed painted them, he took them all back to his workshop, and hand painted the other bits.
Brilliant! It’s a dark colour, and the plate rack is marked a bit, but I can live with that.

In my house (I moved out nearlyt woyears ago), I had a very long galley kitchen with dark oak solid wooden doors and drawer fronts.
About even years ago I wanted to brighten this up - was loath to get rid of those solid wood doors for cheap plastic ones. and, to do that would have cost (then) in excess of three grand.

Found a lovely company, who came, removed all doors and door fronts and tookthem away and spray painted them, returned within a week and replaced and they even changed my door knobs, and cost under a thousand pounds.

When I left the house five years later, these still look as good as when first carried out

Spray painting is the way to go. The decorator doesn't always have to take the doors away, some do it on site. I was so impressed I had my garage door spray painted too.

What happens to side bits that are often made from mdf and not solid wood?

You need the doors refinished properly, spray painted the finished with hard wearing lacquer if you have a local kitchen company they might do that for you.
Mine are getting marked and will need doing soon.

Dd and SiL used the special cupboard paint to make a drastic improvement to some really horrible old dark brown melamine kitchen cupboard doors in their new (old) house. The transformation was amazing.

However that kitchen was replaced a couple of years later, when they had a kitchen extension, so I couldn’t say how long it would have lasted. The finish was fine for that period though.

I used the same sort of paint on a whole wall of white melamine wardrobe doors several years ago. Again, made a big difference, especially since I replaced all the horrible handles, as well.

Hi a friend of mine used a rustoleum paint made specifically for kitchen cupboards.it looks great and has worn well too.

My daughter has just re vamped her kitchen she bought the paints on line. She also ordered a roll of wood grain effect surface covering. New handles for the doors and cupboards her kitchen is transformed.
It was a dull 1970s kitchen now it’s a very modern bright kitchen for under £130. It took her three days and she has done a really good job.

Our cupboard doors were pine. We rubbed them down, undercoated and used Farrow and Ball eggshell. 5 years later they still look as they’ve just been done. Wipe over with a damp cloth to clean them. Much cheaper than replacing them.

We painted our kitchen u its a Provencal light blue, using Farrow and Ball eggshell paint. It has been fine for 10 years with just a little touch up now and again.
