Help calm me. House buying and selling stress

Luckygirl, I had no landline phone or internet for sometime before the move or after - the joys of BT! I paid for extra memory with my phone provider and my brother linked this to my laptop so I could inform people. It cost around £20 but would have been lost without internet connection for the move.

Oh no - I am so sorry you have had his sad news. I am sure she knew how much you appreciated her help during the house hunting. It is so hard when a friend dies.

I am trying to let people know of my change of address but it really is like stirring treacle. Lloyds were brilliant - nice man, certainly we will change it - then a text stating they have done it. Other websites require you to do about 20 pages with reference numbers, NI numbers, passport number etc etc and then tell you on page 21 that you have to have actually moved in before you can inform them! I am trying to do it now as I may have neither phone nor internet connectivity for a while at the new house.

That was one of the reasons that we downsized so that we had time and money to live in the present.

I've had some sad news and it's reminded me that it is best to do what you plan, if possible, when you think of it, sooner rather than later.

My cat sitter friend helped me during my house hunting, and I meant to go round last Friday night, but things got in the way, I was going to go tonight. Very sadly I've just found out she died on Saturday, as I was off line I didn't see the post. She'd had breast cancer and it had spread, but she died of a heart attack like my husband. So very sad, her 19 year old daughter is having to do everything.

Onwards and upwards, I just feel so sorry she didn't know I'd finally made it here. Cherish your friends

Most Landlords have a separate check in and check out company to do the walk around, so it is unlikely to be your Landlord being picky.
When I met the lady doing the check in for my daughter I followed her around and took loads of photos with all the problems that the previous tenant left, she did the same walk around when DD left the house again I took loads of photos to prove that DD had left it in good condition.
Her job was just doing check ins and outs and sending the info to the Landlords or the Lettings Agency.

There's no room for envy Luckygirl (only joking!), it's a seller's market. My friend has just had an asking price offer in a day too. Mad rush now for 14 weeks to complete.

We had to evict some tenants.
One couple had the cheek to ask for their deposit back. They seemed to have forgotten that the only money we had had from them was the deposit ? Plus the 6 month old fitted carpets had to be removed because of the animal faeces.
I told her to make sure she saw me before I saw her ?

Hi Shandy, natural for you to feel a bit low and down at present. Just normal reaction as your have been so busy and worked up and planned for this move for so long. Now, it has actually taken place - you have relaxed and your body is relaxing also. It will pass quite quickly. There is no time-table and nobody overseeing how slowly you unpack and do all the jobs. No viewers to prepare for, no landlords to worry about - allow yourself time to recover, and realise that you can now look forward and enjoy yourself.

They'd photographed absolutely everything in close up - the interior of every kitchen drawer, the oven, the dishwasher, the freezer - luckily all spotless.

I did my best, considering I also had two gardens and a garage to do as well, I'm letting it go now. Whoosh - all gone! ha ha!

Luckygirl, I was amazed at how long it took me to pack the kitchen cupboards/drawers, and I wish I'd purchased some of those folding crates. I ended up with heavy carrier bags of tins, I had run out of packing boxes. Wishing you the best of luck.

Feeling a bit down today at the amount of work I have to do. I've got so lazy over lockdown. I'm remembering the 'how do you eat an elephant - in small chunks' saying, and will get to it after I've walked my dog.

It sounds very much as though the landlord was looking very hard to find an excuse to withhold all or part of your deposit. You must be really fed up. My DD is a landlord and they accept that there will be wear and tear and a bit of dust/cobwebs when a tenant moves on. They just bite the bullet, roll up their sleeves and clean up. It is always difficult when you clear a house - dust and dirt from all corners makes itself known. They accept it as a fact of life.

Talking of envy - during my 14 month saga of failed sales, my immediate neighbour sold hers in a flash - really, in a flash! The sold board went up the same day as the for sale board!

Today is Thursday, and I move next Thursday - I cannot believe there is only a week to go!!!!

That sounds a bit picky Shandy. I'm sure you did more than enough cleaning.

Ah, that's a shame Shandy, hopefully - if at all- you'll have an hour's cleaning charge deducted from your deposit. Fingers crossed your Landlord will be kind hearted and let it go.

I only got it late this afternoon Sundaze, and the new tenants are moving in tomorrow. I nearly killed myself cleaning everything thoroughly, I am sorry I missed this detail - as well as a cobweb, and the hem of the curtain was down too, my eyes aren't what they were The devil's in the detail as they say!

Hi Shandy, would the Letting Agent allow you back into the property to clean the radiators yourself? Might be worth asking!

I understand your jealousy Franbern, I went onto the market at the same time as a fellow widow on the WAY website. She sold her property - with a well, and quite remote - and moved on in three months.

I've just come on because I've just had the 'check out' report from the rental agency. Stupid me forgot to hoover/dust the tops of the open radiators, I've never had them before and didn't give them a second thought. I did hoover the bottom part and wipe the adjuster thing on the end. Unfortunately 'dust/animal hair' was reported and photographed - in close up! What do you reckon this will cost me!

Yogi I really understand how you feel about your next door neighbour. My house went on the market at end of March. House opposite me was just coming to end of this painful excursion. Lovely young woman, with who I got on with pretty well - BUT on the day she moved in April, I actually cried with jealousy. Felt horrible about it, but could not help it. Just so wished it was me. It finally was my turn at end of October. Best wishes with the viewers.

Not sure about others here, but when I started up this process of selling/buying back in 2019 (third attempt in few years), my Solicitor had me deposit a sum of money with them, cannot remember off hand how much, in the hundreds, not the thousands. Suppose this was their 'insurance', should I not go ahead, and still need to pay them monies.

Shandy do not worked up about people coming to stay with you. At present overnight trips are not permitted under Covid restrictions, so none can. Do hope your dog is feeling better now. Cats always seem to want to be whatever places they are not supposed to be!!!

OMG! What happened next, have you now sold?

When I get a buyer I will be able to sleep at night. Will have to call my mortgage people this morning and let them know what's happening, really frightened to do it! I did see this thread weeks before but thought not to look and get a freight, but now I think I should have as forewarned...

My neighbour next door is selling her house, they got a buyer straight away for the asking price, but they pulled out as their buyers pulled out! It went back on the market and sold straight away again for above asking price! lucky cow!

Lots of post to read! How lovely to be able to walk out your door Shandy and onto the beach! My new place is a 10min walk away & lovely park is 12mins [3-4mins in car] Still holding my breath for more news on the paperwork going to my solicitors from theirs. I was told it will then be 3 weeks to completion.

Yes I do pay that £200 'no sale' bill at the end, but bit of a shock to get it, thought the email was going to be; 'sorry for upset' instead a blooming bill along with the stress of losing the sale!

I received a very nice hand written letter from the buyers that pulled out. Saying their mortgage was at an end and the people buying theirs's mortgage offer ended on the 31st, so they panicked! I did say 'not too late, I can still book my removal van' but they said; 'too late now' She said it was to be their dream home

I was awake at 4am, really didn't think I could go back to sleep, thought to get up for a cuppa, but did finally drop off again till 6.30am. It's worse at night as the terrifying scenarios goes swirling round your head. Shingles still very painful.
