Help calm me. House buying and selling stress

When my new floor was laid I decided not to keep the cabinet in which I had housed, DVD's. CD's, Talking books tapes, etc. Got rid of of all my CD's. but have kept those DVD's I am likely to want to play (I do have a DD player). I purchased some small wicker baskets for these that sit neatly on the bottom shelf of my TV table. Middle shelf has my Humax, Alexa dot, DVD player. I had so many pre-school song tapes, and CD's from my days of being a pre-school gymnastic coach and tutor of coaches. Have collected these altogether and will give them to local Childrens Centre.

Up to eyes in packing and just had the news that my GP surgery will no longer be able to keep me on their books as I will be just - and it really is just - over their boundary. There are people in the village I am moving to who are registered with my current surgery and they are further away! And when I lived there before I was with the same surgery. It never entered my head that it might be a problem.

It really is a pain, as I am on things like anti-coagulants that cannot have a break in supply. It will be hard to get registered at a new surgery and new supplies organised as I will neither be able to deal with it in time online as there is no connection yet there, nor will I have a phone line to talk with them initially. Mobile reception there is not great either - I will have to go up to the common and stand there to ring anyone. And all the practices want me to send a letter to me with my address on - which of course I will not have, nor know when I will have one.

My choice of new surgeries are two that are over the border in Wales (which creates complications with existing hospital appointments in England; or in England but down a tiny winding single track road with idiot tractor drivers hurtling about!

Grrrr

Can't you change now while you are still on-line, or ask one of your children to do it for you? I'd stick with England and get a taxi, let the experienced driver face the tractors.

Franbern I had a similar thing. After I got the offer from the buyers that's just pulled out, another wanted to go ahead with a booked 2nd viewing, knowing what I had been offered. They came in with a clipboard, opened and closed every door, window, cupboard, taps, bath as well, flushed the toilet, felt all the radiators. After all that they said 'We know you've been offered **, we have a mortgage for this amount' much lower than the first offer . I know the estate agents tell the viewers not to touch anything and to let the home owner open doors!

Yoginimeisje - your house viewers should not have done these things if they were viewing since covid.

Shandy57 - yes Thursday - the day after tomorrow.. I am going to try and organise the GP change today if I can - but it will involve driving miles when I need to be finishing the packing. I will give them a ring as soon as they are open. I have also emailed the practice I am now with, explained the difficulties and asked that they give me a bit of time leeway to get it all sorted. I await a reply! It feels like one challenge too many at the moment.

Must say books were a problem for me. I really did try so hard to get rid of many of these before I moved, but was still left with a large amount. My daughter down here on her last
visit to me in London before I moved told me to bring them all with (we do have Charity shops in Weston - she said). So I did, along with four of my 3-shelved bookcases. So pleased I did - I had much more room here than I had realised in advance. Two of those bookcases I eventually sold, the other two I kept - and together with the big Ikea unit I purchased means I have kept all those favourite books. One bookcase in my Living room, the other and the Ikea Unit in the hall. Sopleased I brought all these with me, and, of course, those low bookcases are ideal for photos to be displayed on top.

Luckygirl - surely your present GP surgery will not just strike you off, and stop prescribing for you, but will wait until they have received proper notification that you have been accepted at a new surgery. Ghen all your medical notes will be transferred. When you are - they will almost definitely want to have a consultation with you to go through all your current medication.

I know that at this final days time we all get worried about all sorts of things, but do try to relax (easy words to say - harder to do), and look forward to your new, long-awaited, home

Ah yes - books. I have got rid of hundreds. My OH had a vast collection of esoteric, highly complex science books - they were the very devil to fond homes for! And loads of sci-fi - they were easier!

I have rung a new surgery this morning and they are happy to waive the NHS requirement that I produce a letter addressed to me. So that is really helpful. I will go down to the surgery when I can - not in the next couple of days for sure!!!

DD who was helping over weekend now has sore throat!!! AS does her son. But he has had a negative covid test, so hopefully it is just the standard back-to-school- bug.

Gosh it is stressful this moving lark!

Lucky we went into the bank, asked for our address to be changed (which they did without asking for proof) and for a printed statement with our new address on it (no problem). These were accepted by new GP.

The NHS admin system really does need to be dragged into the 21st century.

Glad you've found a solution Luckygirl, good luck. I haven't changed my address at the doctor's surgery yet, I'm assuming I'm still with them as I'm nearer now I'm here. I don't know how my Mum managed thirty years ago, she moved from Middlesex to the Isle of Wight. Must have been land line phone calls and letters in the 'old days', plus a hike to the library to use the photocopier there.

Just back from a dog walk and my good friend was out in her front garden - seems she has a regular home delivery slot with Asda every Wednesday, and she offered to get my shopping. She had paid £70 for an annual pass and managed to get the slot by staying up until 1 am one morning! She gets shopping for four other people who are shielding, two of them live in the next village. She's a very big hearted woman, and lived in London, she's the only one I feel is on my wavelength.

Have you got anyone to help you clean once you've moved out Luckygirl? Even someone to hoover would have been appreciated in my case, I was on my knees by the end of it, moving is very tiring. I wish I'd cleaned the cooker and fridge freezer in advance too.

Luckygirl could you get a cleaner into your old house once you are out? Seems like an investment to me! Worth a thought.

I am lucky that I am moving out on Thursday and the new people are not moving in till Friday. The removers are coming in the morning and will be on their way to new house by lunchtime. So I have someone coming in to clean for me in the afternoon, so that the house will look clean for the new owners. It is amazing the dust that collects behind cupboards! - and the woodlice and cobwebs!

When I registered with the new GP surgery here, I had to show them my passport for some reason. I drove there with my daughter whose whole family is registered there. Fortunately, it was the day after I moved, and I had put all my important documents, (passport, driving licence, etc). in a folder and put that in my car. So when they asked for this my daughter was able to go down the car park and get it from my car.

When I registered with my new GP I had to collect a form from the surgery and complete it at home. I also had to show my passport when I handed in the form. I can't remember if I had to show a letter with my address but I expect I did.

I find the conversation about not being able to attend a specific practice strange. We have no such restriction here and are free to attend any practice we wish or in fact more than one practice.
People often attend different practices for different things.

I had a cabinet maker in on Saturday to do some alterations in the kitchen. Best money spent yet - he has put slide out shelves in the bottom of the pantry and cupboards, I'm just sorry I decided not to follow through on my original plan of having the bottom 2 shelves done. That would have made it much easier to get to various appliances. He also fitted rubbish bins under the sink - this is so handy and well worth the loss of some cupboard space.

We are having some pretty miserable weather but nothing like the flooding seen in parts of New South Wales. Fortunately we are well away from those conditions.

In UK we all register to one GP practice. One of the benefits is to ensure that ALL our medical notes are held in one place. We go through our GP's in order to get referrals on to different hospital departments for different things. I know there are supposed to be wonderful IT systems in place to ensure that our medical notes can be accessed easily by any medical practictioner, with our permission - but have never known any of them work properly. So, must say - I like our GP system. In the past many of these would be just one or, at the most, two Doctors - these days, most of them now are multi-practices, with several GP's assorted Practice Nurses, etc. etc. We are all, usually, registered to ONE of these GP's.

Morning all, sunny here with a cold wind.

I walked the dog this morning and found the source of the loud bangs - it's a huge crow scarer in the field behind us, gave off lots of smoke. Shooting deer/birds/rabbits happens openly here, it is the poaching with dogs that gave me the creeps at the station, such cruelty under the cover of night, still makes me shudder.

I'm just having a rest after unpacking, and thought I'd take the dog to the beach - but lots of workmen have just pulled up in a lorry, and started drilling the road. I'm trapped for the meantime - another first for me!

Just been over to new house to let in my friend who is putting up blinds for me. I also imported things like toilet rolls and washing up liquid and soap etc. ready for the move tomorrow. I did start hanging some curtains but did not get very far as I needed to come back home to continue the packing at this end.

Finally called my mortgage brokers, terrified at what they would say, but lovely young fellow, so nice, said 'as long as they could see my house for sale on the web it would be ok' If I haven't sold by 1st May, end of my mortgage term' I should phone up and they would extend till 31st Oct as is! I was so, so relieved!

Had 2 viewers, another on Sat. Will then either swap estate agents or go multi, with my estate agent now & this new one. How long did it take to get a new buyer after the first and then second buyer pulled out?
