Shutters: yes or no?

I lived in NJ many years ago and we had shutters there.

I really like them

I’ve had mine for three years. They are white coated mdf plantation shutters that look like wood. I have COPD and prefer them to dust holding curtains. Never had condensation problems and love that I can tilt for privacy without losing light and tilt against glare on bright days without losing my view or I can fold and open completely.

My current apartment has them. Don't like them. I know they're fashionable but it's a passing trend, IMO.

When I lived in Spain they were essential to block light yet allow airflow to reduce the heat. Not a problem the UK has.

I predict in 10 years everyone will be ripping them off again.

Never had any problems. Only when I lived in England in old houses with single glazed windows and no blinds/shutters. Condensation is caused by air not being changed in modern buildings there are air ventilators.

Husband fits them and says they look amazing. Very stylish.

Do they not affect the acoustics? I find that soft furnishings absorb sound waves and lead to a quieter atmosphere.

I'm interested to know if those of you that say, no condensation problems, if it had been an issue before having shutters fitted.

My daughter used to live in an old farmhouse that had shutters on all the windows. She loved them, and never had any problems with condensation.

I have double glazing and I close my outside blinds every evening in winter to keep the heat in (and being very English, draw the curtains) and sometimes in summer when it very hot to keep the flat cool. The windows here open inwards. I don’t have any condensation.

I had shutters in 3 houses. Moisture was never a problem. I loved them.

I have interior shutters. Each side is made in 1 piece, but I can open or close the top & bottom parts separately. They have a magnetic closure & I chose a 2.5” slat size.
I’ve had them for about 5 yrs, & have had no condensation problems. I really like them! Hope this helps.

A colonial or federal property looks better with shutters, they match the properties.

JackK I’m not sure how to find or resurrect an old thread. But there was one a few months back about internal shutter blinds. If you are able to search for it there might be some useful points in it.

Yes I'm not sure if you meant indoor or outdoor JackK I live in France and everyone here has outdoor shutters. They are used all the time in lieu of draw curtains and to keep the heat in or out. I don't like them much, I feel claustrophobic with them closed. I only close ours when its really hot.
Villages here look deserted when shutters are closed most of the time in winter.

I don't have shutters but they are very fashionable and I see lots of houses with them. They are also expensive so I am sure all these people would not have them if there was a problem like condensation.

I think they look good too, but i like natural light and wonder if they might take too much light especially if the room doesn't get much sun.
Shouldn't think condensation would affect them, but as has been said, they are very common in europe and someone may come along with an answer.

No idea, I'm afraid, but shutters, both metal and wooden, are common in many countries, France for one. Someone who lives there might be able to help.
