Help calm me. House buying and selling stress

Good news Whiff. Have a nice weekend.
It is torrential rain here in North Cornwall.

Whiff, last year - in the middle of my move - I was getting on-going UTI's. Each time a different anti-biotic, and within about 24 - 48 hours of that finishing a further infection would start. I spent one very fraught Saturday night at my local emergency room, booked there from a 111 call. Another Saturday night I drive down to emergency GP about five miles from home. I then asked/told my GP surgery that I felt that I needed further investigation.
Referred to Urinary dept at hospital, a camera there showed that there was a growth in the urinary tract. All happened very fast then, they put me on - for meantime, continuous low level anti-biotics and arranged for me to come into hospital for growth to be removed and checked.

I do know at the time, thinking that if this was cancerous, then I would have to cancel the whole moving thingie. Was taken in within less than three weeks after that outpatients test, and - fortunately, it proved to be non-cancerous. Although I have been told there is a high possibility of it regrowing and I am now supposed to have an annual check with the camera - I have felt fine since I recovered from the anaesthetic

My check up this year has just been a telephone consultation, although I have been told if things start to get bad again I must get quick referral to the hospital.

Six weeks after that hospital op. I moved.

Just telling you this to show that even when it seems bad, it can really be okay. Must say the Consultant on that telephone consultation in April this year laughed when I told him that I was much more scared of UTI's than I was of Covid!!

Hope you start to feel better soon. I do know how it really makes you feel so very unwell.

Shandy, glad you are starting to recover from your cold. We seem to have got well into that season already.

When I moved I had to wait five days to get my landline and internet in place, although I had arranged the contract during the week before I moved. No idea why we have to wait for this - we do not for gas or electricity. Only time I have ever come close to using up all my data on my mobile. I did arrange for two year contract then, quite deliberately as it would give me lots of settling in time before having to make any further decision. Very happy that I did, and I am coming up, fast, to my first anniversary here.

Autumn seems to have arrived. Very wet here today. Daughter took me to nearby Ikea this morning, home for lunch and she has lit a fire in her sitting room, which makes it warm and cosy.

Shandy, this is for you to evoke memories.

It would have been my 35th wedding anniversary today, we got married in the Seychelles, just the two of us.

Ellianne what a lovely photo. For the last 6 years we were married for our wedding anniversary we brought original art work usually water colours. One of them is by a Cornish artist it's shades of black,grey and white a stormy sea scene. It's my favourite piece. Your picture is very much like it.

Franbern did you cook toast in front of the fire? During the miners strike my parents had a coke fire and during the times the electricity was off we used to use a toasting fork toasted bread, teacakes and the like. Always tasted better than out of a toaster. I answered your induction hob question on the new kitchen thread. But incase you don't read it. If you have an induction hob with circles you can only use the same size pan as the circle. But with crosses you can use any size pan on all the crosses eg milk pan or persevering pan can go on any cross. When I was planning my kitchen last year my son told me a friend of his brought one with circles and told them the limitations of them. So when they had their kitchen done 3 years ago they brought one with crosses. I have past that useful piece of advice to anyone who said they were having an induction hob. Also a good tip if you put it on b to boil don't move as it is very quick. Made that mistake the first time I used it and my soup boiled over. Luckily it is so easy to clean. It's just as responsive as gas as soon as you turn it down it goes down. Love the fact after use a H flashes red to let you know the cross is hot . To clean I just us soapy water on a sponge and dry it with kitchen roll.

It's nanny playtime later on this morning. I will be looking after my grandson for a while. He got into my daughter's blusher the other day and painted his face with one of her brushes. When she asked him what he had done. He just said "me pretty". No answer to that.

Shandy57 I hope you don't feel sad today. Just remember the day and think of any funny things that happened on the day or your honeymoon. Regatta have a sale on at the moment so you could get some better waterproof gear.

I try to be busy on my wedding anniversary and especially on my birthday, it is especially hard now, no-one to make a very special fuss of me but heyho, at least there are glorious happy memories and feeling lucky to have them

It seems as though we are to have 7 nasty rainy days, orange warning for two days. Hunkering down time. Floods are expected in places

Shandy if your dog still has a poorly tum, give him just a bit of boiled white rice so his gut has a chance to heal

My best rainproof gear is a very long coat, it is roomy with a great hood and I bought when living in the lake district, 1972 from a little uk company called three jays. I used it a lot there and have used it here when walking to the shops. It hangs in my wardrobe still as efficient as when new and completely waterproof. I do keep regatta gear too, the top that packs away and the overtrousers, both in small pouches. They always remind me of us fell walking and picking fungi in the elan valley, sigh, never to be done again. Happy memories

Do you have winter packs in your car? I keep a spare regatta set, snacks and later will put in some warm woolies, just in case

Craftyone I am feeling better thank you. Family staying for lunch so will get my little sous chef to help with the prep. It will be all ready for when they get back. Nothing fancy Quorn sausages in flat bread with sweet potato wedges and roasted peppers and mushrooms. Mango and tomato chutney's on the side. He loves cooking with his mom. They made peanut butter cookies yesterday.

My parents taught my brother and me to cook from an early age and always had the children in the kitchen with me. Now it's my grandsons turn.

I've ordered some waterproof trousers from Regatta this morning. Ordered men's as they were a lot cheaper than the women's also delivery is only £1.99 for a couple of days.

Hope you are feeling better, Whiff. When we looked at hobs yesterday it seemed as if Induction hobs had crosses and non-induction ceramic ones have circles. At present I have one of the latter.

Shandy, hope your dog is feeling better also. Must say in bad weather I do not envy those of you who have to go out to take dog for their walks.

Ellianne, one week in - how is it all going in your bathroom?

My daughters two cats (ginger tom brothers) now coming up to about ten years old, have been put on diet with approval of the vet. One has always been particularly greedy and is definitely over-weight, the other one is just over the best weight for him. So, they have been put on 'Light' food, just twice a day and NO titbits or treats.
Bigger one is not happy about this, but even unhappier when my g.daughter tried to put on him a harness so she could take him for a walk (exercise).
Wished I had videoed the problems that the cat got into as he somehow got this harness round his (rotund) middle instead of up the front. In the end g.daughter had to cut this off!!!!

Had a pleasant couple of hours yesterday in Ikea - easy to stay well away from other customers there. Cafe did not open until 10.30 and then you had to book, so we did not bother. Went back home where two portions of my previous days soup was in the fridge for us to use.

Taking it very easy today - do want to get round corner to local High street. if the rain will ease off for an hour or so.

Whiff, thanks for advice about hobs. It will not be for about three years before I have my kitchen done, and am just happily collecting lots of information.

My wedding day was 4th October, and would have been 56th if we were still together, tomorrow. TBH, I tend to forget about that completely now. He left in mid-90's, but our marriage had been in problems for a good ten years prior to that. So those of you who do have good memories, treasure them!!!

It's so nice everyone has happy memories of special places. I guess that is what we have to hold onto in difficult times.
I have a Saltrock quilted coat here which us just about holding up to the weather, along with a Jack Wolfskin fleece underneath. My cousin from NewZ left me an expedition coat she wore on a trip to Svalbard last year. I need to get it down from the loft when I get home.

Shandy, hope your dog is getting better. It takes a while for stomachs to settle.
Franbern, I'm trying not to get impatient but the bathroom looks like slow progress to me. The floor tiles are now down and the walk in shower base. I'm guessing the walls will be done next week, then the basin unit, ladder radiator and the loo. The border tiles round the inset mirror are giving them a bit of a challenge to position on paper but I'm sure it will come right with a bit of tweaking.

Franbern, full of hope and love on your wedding day, a treasured memory for you. Many of us were so young, starting with a bottom drawer and second hand furniture but many of us were good makers and do-ers. I knew full well how to cook, clean and sew by 10, oldest girl to 6 siblings advantage (or disadvantage) I was 22 when I married and 29 when we had our oldest child. Was such fun and hardship bringing them up when money was oh so tight

Very grim here and expecting it all week so I settled into changing my bedding properly for winter and packed each set into its pillowcase. Airing cupboard is very sorted. Clothing is all done too this morning, I need to stop making knitteds. Some clothing is out including 3 old style (father Brown era) unused dresses, bought on a whim, years ago

I am wearing a patra skirt today, elastic waist and easy to wear, longish, swirly and with knee highs. I love the 3 skirts from them, had them years and never want them to wear out. Very comfy in a skirt today, better than my jeans. The knee highs were all from cosyfeet in street somerset. They sell rather nice wider footwear, like their cosytex. My meals are sorted for today so I want to read, I like to read my technical and health books best tbh. I bought a sainsbury delivery pass yesterday, only £30 for 12 months, mid week deliveries. After hearing about my niece and her family sufferings, I definitely want to stay out of trouble and tbh cannot be bothered with supermarket shopping in person

Hi shandy57, sorry to hear your dog is still unwell after his spell in the kennels. Have you tried pro-kolin? It’s a probiotic for dogs. Having a dog myself who is prone to tummy upsets/diarrhoea I swear by the stuff and always make sure I have some in. It settles the gut really quickly and firms things up within a day or so. You can get it from the vet but I find it cheaper to get off Amazon

Thanks Willidel, I did have to go and get some on Wednesday as he had blood in the poo - and on his bottom. Vet said he'd burst a blood vessel straining, poor dog I gave it to him twice a day for two days but the diarhorrea has returned today. Unfortunately his dog food has just changed - Applaws - new recipes. I made him scrambled egg tonight, he just stood at his dish and cried, he didn't know what it was. I almost feel like crying too, every coat I own is soaked, it hasn't stopped raining all day and I've been out with him about eight times. Thank heavens I haven't got steps anymore! I damaged my big toe in February and the nail was very damaged and has now really started hurting, so I'm soaking wet and limping too!

I've just been watching a delightful programme on Netflix and recommend it for light entertainment - Enola Holmes. Sherlock is exceedingly handsome!

Shandy we watched Enola Holmes too , a very clever film and I do like Helena Bonham Carter.

Thank goodness for Netflix, the other channels all seem to be reality programmes and so many repeats. I expect next year will be worse due to everything being shut down in the TV industry.

Oh Shandy57 that sounds so miserable, for you and you dog! My little dog has such a sensitive tum it doesn’t take much to upset her, the prokolin usually sorts her out however last year she had recurring bouts of diarrhoea over several weeks and was eventually prescribed antibiotics. I wonder if your dog may have picked up a bacterial infection whilst in the kennel? I hope ‘things’ are back to normal soon!

Another week has flown by. Our clocks were put forward this morning and we have had a few days of 28/29 degrees. The last couple of nights have been quite hot with the temperature still in the mid 20's at bedtime. However any thoughts of changing the doona (duvet) have gone as the next week will be back to low to mid teen temperatures.

Shandy - something I have found excellent for dogs - and people for that matter - with upset tummies or bowels is slippery elm powder. Mix a teaspoon in water and pour over their food or if able give it before food. I have used it for years on both dogs and myself.

We were able to have a house viewing on Friday. Probably not a contender as OH was not keen and I could see too many things I would want to change but mainly it was the area that put me off. Unfortunately one has to look just in case. There has been more properties listed since private inspections were allowed this week so that is positive. It will be 12 months since we sold our property at the end of the month.

It's been a hard week in terms of restrictions. I go nowhere other than medical appointments and shopping and hence see no-one. I had to have x-rays on my feet and an ultra sound of one during the week. My foot pain and stability is not good and I'm hoping something can be found and treatment done to improve both. The podiatrist did mention cortisone injections but obviously we need to know what is causing the problems. It is sometimes hard to be positive. However, yesterday son #1 called in - not really permitted as a visitor but as OH had been doing some repair to machinery for his business he was able to come and collect it. Added to that this morning we were able to spend a couple of hours at a wetland reserve with son #2 dil and DGSx2. Yes we were 1 over the limit allowed but after 4 months of not seeing them I was not going to pass on the opportunity. We were all well spaced out and masked up and it was a real joy to have the 4 & 6 year olds race up to us saying "we have missed you Grandma and Grandpa" while giving us a big hug. 6 yo will go back to school (first year) next week and is so looking forward to doing so. I just hope he can see the rest of the term which has already been shortened by one week without any more disruption.

Our new case numbers have fallen and been in single figures for most of the week. It seems quite obvious the Victorian Government is striving for elimination rather than suppression even though every other state has opened up significantly and still not getting as many cases as we are. A public enquiry has found the failings of the quarantine situation put in place by the Government has lead to over 600 deaths and about 18,000 infections. 9 Government officials, including the Premier and the Minister for Health, in their submissions to the enquiry could not remember or said they did not know or were not aware of who authorised a private security firm to oversee the program. There were so many breaches occur such as allowing people in quarantine to go out and buy food or exercise, hygiene standards ignored and improper interaction between the guards and the quarantined. And that is why we had our huge second wave.

While it was still raining yesterday morning, the electricity here suddenly went off. Found out later it was a local shop which had an fire cased by electrical fault and firemen turned it off for a short while (30 minutes), to all nearby.

It was midday, so no need for lights, etc. but did make us realise how much worse things could be if our utilities were not operating and being repaired, etc.

Rain stopped, sun tried to to break through. We did managed to get out to High Street. I had happily used my walker in Ikea the day previous, but found that outside it was much more difficult for me. We could not go far. But did get to the particular shop I wanted to go to.

Lazy, relaxing day today, then tomorrow I go to visit a couple of my friends, and on Tuesday return home. We have sorted out provisional plans for the Christmas period, which is really very little different from other years. I do hope to be able to spend a weekend before then with my son & DiL, but will need to wait for Warrington to come out of Lockdown. As they both work from their home on the very leafy suburbs there, and only go out for exercise walks and once a week for supermarket, I do not think I would be in real danger in visiting them. They had hoped to visit her parents in USA over Xmas, seems unlikely they will be permitted to that now.

Spice, do hope that you will be able to find your new home soon, now that viewings are starting again.

Ellianne, I found that the dismantling (bathroom) seem to go on and on, but when things started to get put together it all happened pretty quickly, so this time next week, you should be happily putting in all those little finishing touches,

whoops, youngest child at 29, I finished child bearing then. I am glad there weren`t choices, so many today wait until 40 to have their first.

It was a lovely quiet day yesterday, it is the candle and the side lights that make the difference. I did lots of reading, thoroughly enjoyed myself. Similar today because of the weather but I have made a large pan of good old fashioned minestrone soup, without the pasta, there is a lovely italian gran on youtube who cooks like this for her grandchildren. I enjoyed watching her and it inspired me

I don`t intend to go hither and thither, am happy and content in my own skin and we communicate often, my children and my siblings, on different whatsapp groups.

I am very very glad that you are out of the old house shandy, at least now you don`t have to worry about any repairs

Morning everyone, the sun woke me up! No rain this morning. We had local flood warnings last night and I can hear the river raging down the road. Much upset in the village yesterday, the young swan was on the road, I hope he found somewhere safer to shelter. He hasn't got a mate yet.

I am grateful to be out too craftyone, I can now relax in bad weather, I did thank my lucky stars yesterday. My obsession with the house was because it was my safe place, although it wasn't safe or comfortable. It is easing as time goes on, but I still feel distressed to see him hacking the trees down, looks like the beech is next. Remembering does make me feel anxious even now, when it was non stop torrential rain I worried about the roof leak over the boiler controls, as well as the septic tank backing up and flooding the courtyard.

Off to the beach for a dog walk, hope the roads aren't too flooded from the fields.

56 years ago today was also a Sunday for my very lovely wedding. My Dad had offered us the monies he had saved for my wedding for us to use as a deposit on a house, best idea - however, my Mum agreed with him, but looked so very down at the thought, as she then went on to say how ever since I had been born she had imagined me walking up the aisle in white.

So.........no deposit, but big wedding. Good memories from that - yes, but the best thing that came out of that marriage has been my wonderful children.

Although, did not have the first one until several years after the wedding when I was 28 yrs. By the time I reached my 34th birthday I had five small children!!!! (The final two arriving within a few minutes of each other. Joined shortly after by long term foster baby who became our 6th, with just 7 rs between eldest and youngest. Good times though. Often very hard up, but I really enjoyed my time as full-time Mum. And, made some wonderful friends.

Someone, I think it was Whiff, asked if I had used toasting forks. Yes, I did - but before I was married, when we had in my parents home real fires. Never really worked with electric fires. But my 17 yr old g.daughter uses one happily on the real wood fire that they often have in the winter in their sitting room.

Enjoying watching the London Marathon at present.

Spice hope you find your new home soon. Hearing what is happening with Covid and restrictions going on in another country is interesting. Hope your feet feel better soon. Not a part of your body you can rest for long.

Shandy hope your dog is soon better. And hope you are feeling better in yourself. Are there any properties near you that would like to buy? Notice there are quite a few on Rightmove. Please don't give up looking. Stop looking at your old house. It's not yours. You are only upsetting yourself for nothing. That house is the past you have a wonderful future to look forward to.

Ellianne all the upheaval with your bathroom will be worth it when you see the finished result. I love my shower room and am so glad I had it done.

Made 8.5 lbs of lemon marmalade today. Had to go and bale out some of the water out of my pond. It was full to the brim. Glad I have got my ankle wellies.
