Shower screens, best way to keep sparkling and smear free? ?

White vinegar and washing up liquid - Google the recipe. It's brilliant in removing limescale. I do our shower screen and door every month and inbetween just squeegee the excess water and spray with showershine after using the shower.

Viakal and a microfibre cloth. Wouldn't it be good if they made shower screens with a pattern through, kind of like bathroom windows. The marks wouldn't be so annoyingly visible.

OK so I have 4 showers to clean (different properties) - 3 walk ins with curved doors and the other a double walk in with flat doors so over the years I've despaired on how to clean them until I finally found the way that works for me. First off there is a squeegee available with 2 blades (Lakeland I think) - one straight side and one curved (it just fits the curved doors perfectly) which is used after each shower after spraying with shower spray - Aldi's is pretty good and cheap. Once it's rinsed off I keep a window vac in the bathroom and dry them with that.

However to clean stubborn limescale build up off I bought a battery operated rotary brush and use that periodically with something like The Pink Stuff to really scrub them as it also gets in the grooves at the bottom of the doors.

Mr W also makes a mess on the outside when shaving or cleaning his teeth so I just use glass cleaner and a cloth to polish it. I might add that he doesn't do any of the above cleaning although I have managed to persuade him to use the spray - when he remembers!

Water softeners are great but don't seem to survive long in our house. They develop leaks and have to go, we've had 3 but currently managing without until my new bathroom is installed.

Until recently I was using shower curtains in a bathroom. Never a problem with mould or wet curtain over many years.
Always buy the polyester fabric feel curtains (never plastic). I had several and just threw them in with the short cycle wash. Dry so quickly, including after a shower. Even a very brief gentle tumble.

I have a glass screen over our bath. After showing I just wipe down the screen and the tiles with a dry cloth done and it's bright and shiney. But you have to do it straight away, if you let it dry it's too late.
I don't use any sprays and my screen and tiles look like new.
I had someone come a few months ago and they asked me how long the bathroom had been in, when I said 13 years they were shocked at how good it looked.
I'm all for an easy cleaning life and don't do anything that makes my life harder.

I use window wipes and they keep the screen clean. Better on a dry screen though.

I'm another who thinks water softeners are great. I just spray the screen with the showerhead when showering and give it a squeege. No need for powerful chemicals or even vinegar. I've never cleaned my screen or taps with anything. The watersoftener uses salt and no electricity to run it.

Rain-X has already been mentioned, it's great on bathroom mirrors too. However, you would need to thoroughly clean the shower screen before applying Rain-X, but imho, it would be worth the effort as it lasts for a long time.

Don't use harsh cleaners on the glass, these will etch the surface and nothing will fix that, short of replacing the glass.

DS has the same problem with our DiL. He’s just fitted a new walk-in shower with a curved Perspex screen and is in a hard water area. Unsure whats safe to use on plastic I advised towelling it down which doesn’t take a minute but she ‘forgets’.

I use vinegar too bibs.

Like GardenerGran I recommend a water softener, it’s one of our best buys for the house.

Could you throw a large towel or cloth over the screen? Whip it off to shower or before someone else uses the bathroom. Put it in the wash when it needs it. Just a thought.

Mr M is just the same as Mr P. If he can’t be bothered to do something, nothing will make him. However, he does do a lot of things well, including cleaning the shower screen weekly, so I mustn’t complain. In between cleans, I find the various shower screen sprays very helpful.

To all those who suggested being firmer with Mr P, well, you are welcome to try!

He is a complete contrast to my ex dh, he was short, Mr P is tall, he was a stroppy, argumentative "person" Mr P is laid back in the extreme!

However, Mr P will "agree" to things, and then go his own sweet way!

I don't think it's a good idea to get rid of the screen. Shower curtains would get damp and mouldy - my sister has them and she despairs. Her husband isn't a natural handyman so they're stuck with them as he doesn't see the need for a proper screen. Does it really matter if the screen isn't super pristine?

All I do is use the damp towel I used to dry my hair with and it seems to get all the suds and smears off and my shower glass/tiles/taps etc. looks as new as the day it was installed. I do it while the shower cubicle is still damp and I stand in there in my underwear or the nude to do it! I've learnt not to do it fully dressed as sometimes I knock the taps accidently and set off the shower!!

I really think you will have to be firmer Phoenix, it took a while, but a combination of threats and bribes has got DH into the habit of using the squeegee every time now!
