Help calm me. House buying and selling stress. Part 6

Kissngate I put my things in storage for couple of weeks when I moved with Pickford's do not use them. Sorry to say they did not treat my things with care.
I put my house on the market March 2018 accepted an offer in June. Found my bungalow in July. Should have moved in September .That buyer pulled out the day we should have exchanged contracts. Found another buyer . Think it was October with one thing another should have exchanged contracts in March she pulled out 4 days before. Found another buyer a few days later. Should have moved in May but their solicitor was a nightmare so finally got here a year ago this month. Luckily the bungalow I wanted the executors where willing to wait for me.

I stayed with my daughter and family for 2 weeks while I had things done to the bungalow. But others on here are renting before buying after selling their homes.

Should say I moved over 100 miles from my old house.

There are others on here who had to wait longer to move because of buyers pulling out. If you can spare the time read back on the other threads it may help you.

We are a friendly bunch on here and have lots experiences good and bad about moving. Hope this helps.

Franbern I have fingers crossed about your dgs this morning

Hope you ladies can point me in the right direction. Our home is currently on the market and we are considering offers. The question being asked is how soon can you move. Question 1 - what do you consider a reasonable time period to sell?
Question 2 - As we dont live in the area we intend to move too we need to rent. Do any of the previous five threads cover rental and the pitfalls?
Question 3 - Has anyone put belongings in storage and what's a reasonable cost to do so?

Fruit

No rain here today yet, but a definite drop in temperature. Our dog got attacked by another dog today on our walk. It was quite vicious and it repeatedly went for him, the owner did nothing. In the end my brave husband grabbed the other dog and lifted it up by the collar. I offered some choice comments. Our dog seems fine now.
The London movers are in the last few days and have sold a lot of items and organised cleaners. They will do two trips in 48 hours to get the children and pets sorted but the final one won't involve the 220 miles back to London. A new chapter begins.

We had a storm last night the full works. But whilst it watered the gardens it's just as hot today as yesterday. Got roofers coming to fill in the crack in my garage. Also think I have a leak somewhere. When they put the new roof on last year the weather was awful so something might not have sealed right. But it's all under warranty and they will fix it. Lovely father and son team. Its a family business started in 1945 by the grandfather.

Talking of older UPVC windows which can go a bit yellow with time, did you know the new craze is to have the plastic frames professionally sprayed? Colour choices available, but grey is most popular. I guess it gives them a few extra years if they are working properly.

Oh I do hope there is storm later but I doubt it, they are so fickle at the moment. Its different sort of weather, to do with elevated storms ie warm air rising and you might see cloud towers appear. Many times they hit a cap and that is it, the storm potential vanishes. That is why the forecast on met weather is changing hour to hour. These sort of storms sometimes send hailstones down, or all we might get is lightning and no rain or we could get the full on intense rain. I see that we are forcast this weather for 6 more days

I am wasting so much time, too hot to do anything, it reached 33 outside. At last I have opened the shutters on the east side and I can see to read but really am too lethargic now

On windows and doors, anything metal that moves needs the silicone spray, On my windows that is top and bottom and the doors, side hinges and locking mechanisms. I had better get the silicone back out of the garage, I must do the patio doors while I remember, later when it is cooler

Craftyone, I found your comments re window hinges interesting. Some of the windows here are quite stiff and I have been using WD40 on them, thoughtthat was a silicone Spray. On small window opening on to balcony I do not think has ever previously been open. On one of my bedroom windows, one of the hinges has broken and I am waiting to get that repaired.
So hot here today. Spent the morning in the very large park in Burnham on Sea. Did stay as much as possible in the shade. Even so, when I got back home at just after 1 pm, all I could do was drink a large mug of tea, and then fell asleep in my chair with my fan playing on me. I was awake very early this morning. Expecting storms tonight.
Nonnalor, you move is a similar distance to mine last year. I had the packers in the Monday and they drove to my new home on the Tuesday, which was the day that Contracts were completed. You are fortunate to have such a long notification of dates. The contracts on mine were only exchanged (and thereby finalising the process) on the Friday beforehand. Such a horrific time. This seems to be the norm now in England - the previous time I moved in 2003, we used to have about a month between exchange and completion. When I said to my solicitor that I wanted much the same this time, he laughed at me!!!!

Nonnalor hope all goes smoothly with your move. At least you started decluttering last year. Thought I had been very strict but found things I brought with me I didn't want or need. Been here a year now finally got everywhere as I want it.

Cleaned the windows inside and out and pegged out washing I am done. It's so hot . Windows open fan on and it's still 25° in my living room even hotter in the kitchen.

Thanks Niobe. That must’ve been so stressful Ellianne. We accepted an offer early July having just put it back on the market after lockdown. We’re in a chain of 3 including ours and we are downsizing from a 4 bed house to a 3 bed new build bungalow. We’ve been here 30 years so a lot of decluttering ? Though I did start that last year when I retired!

That's so much better to have a set moving date in good time. It took forever for everyone in our chain to agree, leaving us only a week to sort out the move.

The Scottish system allows a far less stressful move than the English one. Once missives are complete it’s final so NonnaLor will find that she can give a final, binding moving date to the removal company in good time. When we sold in Scotland our missives were complete 4 weeks before the actual date of entry.

Thanks Oops and Ellianne. We’re moving from central Scotland to the Highlands. We are expecting to conclude missives this week?With an agreed move date of 23 October so was thinking removal guys to pack up van in 22nd due to journey time etc - can do the journey in a car in 3 hours but obviously van will take longer.

I moved 12 months ago and am involved in another family move this week.
Firstly 153 miles is a fair old distance so you need to consider how many days you want the move over. It is possible, just, to do it in one day but I would advise two.
I would choose a local company who can send an estimator round and then deliver you all the boxes.
Online quotes can give you a rough idea of the cost but nothing beats the real life man.
Choosing the date is a difficult one because you might only have a week or so between exchange and completion. I think some other movers on here were more successful than I was in that respect.
Do you want actual names? If so don't use Pickfords or Simply Removals. Try Bishopsmove.

Morning all, a lot cooler here today. I'm sorry the nights are drawing in, just made it home from the beach in twilight at 9 pm last night.

As it's cooler I'm going to repack in the garage today. At the end it got a bit frantic and I know some of my treasures aren't packed properly. Once that's done I'll be able to invite a removals company and ask for quotes for both places, going to be a fortune for me.

My 'new' skechers arrived yesterday, what joy! The insides and bobbles on my 2018 pair have gone, it is like walking on air again.

There is an online quote service that will get 6 quotes for you, based on bedroom size, but with a space to fill in extra details, that might be worth a shot initially and then look for reviews before you pick one.

Nonna I would think it best to get quotes from either end and see how the prices work out, I doubt that either of them will be able to get a Return load, unless it’s one of the big removal firms.
If I were you, if you know the likely dates, I would get it booked, what with COVID and potential lockdowns, dates are likely to be quickly snapped up.

I noticed several of our windows were stiff too, so I sprayed them with fri light cooking oil and it seems to have loosened them. My husband swims everything in olive oil when he cooks so I make up for by using the fri light spray when I cook. It even works well for roast potatoes.
I could have done with our new walk in shower now what with showering every day. The little cubicle isn't very big and creaks around. Good luck with your installation, Franbern, ours will be a month later.

Good Morning! Looking for some advice re removals please,. I’m moving 153 miles from my current home And am wondering if it’s best to get a removal firm in my new location rather than a local one? Has anyone used those online web firms to get quotes? Due to the distance looking for a removal company rather than man with a van. Happy to do most of own packing. Any advice welcome. Thank you!

I have been reading posts and glad to sense the overall happy tone. Was out yesterday, lunch in a beer garden, under a willow tree by a large pond, with dd and family. Lovely and a cooler ambience. I am only pottering these days, hard to cope with the humidity and heat and no rain, not a drop!

One of my windows was a bit stiff to open, they are outward opening with handles and I realised that these hinges all need a spray and wipe with silicone, once a year. No instructions with these but I had full instructions at the last house. These were much easier to do this morning, the last house had twice as many big sliding hinges on each window, they were tilt and turn. Got to use silicone spray and defnitely not wd40

I spent a lot of time on all the windows and doors at the other house and I have learnt from that, now I only did the frequent openers and the doors here

I am making an effort to drink more water, not just a passing glass, I actually measured the water in my big sports bottle and is 700ml, three of those today, plus coffee and tea

I am doing a garden pot revamp, slowly and have bought some large recycled plastic pots, very lovely and solid and so much lighter. It will soon be time to plant for autumn and these are meant for strawberries, I cannot be doing with the felt strawberry planters that I have. The plants in the little pockets are not doing so well, the ones at the top are good. The felt containers get sodden and stay sodden. Hardest part is getting all the compost, I need john innes 2 mixed with vermiculite and some drainage covers on the bottom over the holes. I may collect small empty plastic milk bottles and use them for some bulk at the bottom, they help keep the weight down

Shandy will have no worries about setting her alarm on the train. It will 'terminate' at Kings X. That station and St. Pancras are two stations rolled into one, so an easy transfer. Do love the way the tell us that trains are 'terminating'when they reach their final destination!!!
Funny how we are now finding that normal things like getting ones hair cut is so memorable and, even, exciting.
Very hot here today, this morning I trundled about a mile as someone said on our local Have been unable to get any bramley at Sainsbury for past few weeks and I do like stewed apple and custard. Having picked these up, I then trundled around to The Range where I forgot something I wanted when I went there yesterday afternoon. First time I have used the scooter for such a long distance locally, by myself since I moved here. I was disappointed that not all the side roads had proper dropped kerbs and one time I had to dangerously cross a busy main road to continue my journey as I was blocked on the side of I was on, but no dropped kerb.
My SiL is working with local Councillors to get them to do journeys like this is a wheelchair or on a pavement scooter to show up the problems. Have been promised that will happen sometime in September.
