Good Housekeeping/Bad Housekeeping!

I have a technique I call 'lazy iron.' I have done a time and motion study on each garment or item I iron so that it LOOKS ironed with the minimal effort. For example, I iron almost every garment except the DH's shirts flat and have a method for doing pillowcases which takes about 30 seconds.

It worked so well that I now 'lazy Hoover', 'lazy carwash' and so on.

For the latter I use just two buckets of water and a caravan brush. In five to ten minutes I can get our large Ford Galaxy looking as if it had emerged from the carwash. And I never chamoix as cars dry themselves without streaking.

My bedding goes to the laundry...no, don’t judge, it’s my one extravagance and there is nothing better than clean, cool duvet and p/cases.they collect and deliver and to me it’s money well spent.

I’m reminded of the woman who said she knew summer had arrived when her husband started asking her to iron the whole of his office shirts, not just the fronts.

However I’m glad to say that no ironing or dusting whatsoever has taken place in this house for, er, quite a few days now.

All my life I have ironed and used spray starch on cotton bedding - sheets. pillowcases duvet covers. About 3 weeks ago I decided to stop and now just iron and spray starch the pillowcases. DH hasn't noticed and, apart from when I look in the linen cupboard and see folded crumpled sheets, neither have I. Why on earth did I waste all that time?

Good housekeeping: sorted out my shoe drawers, Bad housekeeping : shoved all the manky ones under bed in the spare room!

I have done little less than normal ironing since November when my dressing table had to be moved into my Lounge due to a leaking roof. I detest ironing, moving towards better weather I will have to do more

Kitchen & Bathroom are always clean as are my clothes & bed.

I haven't dusted since before "lockdown" & only hoovered twice. Don't get me wrong this is not due to "lockdown" but is quite normal for me, rather spend time in the garden/outside

I iron selectively. The reason is entirely selfish in that I prefer the feel and look of me in an ironed item. I've tried the hefty/immediate shake out and short tumble. Not for me. I defy anyone not to be able to tell the difference between an ironed and non ironed item. However, if the user doesn't mind, I certainly don't. I'm more interested in what's inside the somewhat crumpled item. Dusting...... ah well..... I find if it's left long enough it can simply be rolled up and binned. Furthermore, there's a softer landing to be had if hoovering is avoided. Safety first! Good thread.

I have always said that I'd like to share a house with someone who'd do all the cleaning, and I'd do the washing, ironing and cooking. I really don't mind ironing. Now tidying and cleaning - that's a different story.

Never iron.unless its a special occasion,(weddings,christenings,etc.) Even when youngest sons were still at school,i bought 'non-iron' shirts from M&S,and only pressed their trousers.(and occasionally a blazer) Now theyre at college/uni all their stuff goes in the dryer& just needs folding.

My iron and board come out immediately I am doing some dressmaking, and it is then well used. However, I have not had the sewing machine out nor touched a needle for 27 years. I do like clearing plug holes though.

Nanna58- just bite the bullet& bin the manky ones! You'll feel better for it!

2 of my (Adult)daughters seem to be always ironing- but the youngest (27)avoids it i think.Good girl,always took after her mother!

Because of various allergies I can only wear cotton (can't afford silk!) and as you will all be aware - cotton creases! So I do iron, usually after a laundry had dried and been brought in. I've taught my son how to iron his work shirts and trousers and he just gets on with it.

I never iron unless it's a last resort, my washing goes into the dryer and comes out crease free if I take it out when it's still warm

I iron pillowcases but not sheets. My MIL was a stickler for housework, hoovered and dusted every day, every room "done properly" once a week on a designated day. I used to tease her when she said she dusted the tops of doors, saying I didn't know any one could see up there so no need, think she thought I was quite slovenly

Iron as required and if I had a husband he would iron his own damn shirts.

What a waste of time, ironing bedding.
It just gets crumpled up when you get into bed.

If not crumpled up when wet, it keeps nice and smooth. Occasionally the odd crease, but quite frankly, I’m not bothered.
As for clothes, I only usually iron jeans and summer tops when needed.
I don’t have a laundry room, so getting the ironing board out every time is a nuisance.

Good housekeeping: I iron duvet cover - top side showing only - when I first do a bed linen change. There’s a socket next to the bed and the cord on the iron just reaches .... easiest way I’ve found, but it took me 40 years to find it.
Bad housekeeping: I only wear my specs to read, I don’t wear them when I’m walking around the house in case I see dust lurking and feel obliged to remove it.
