Duvets v. Blankets

I sleep in a single bed but have a double duvet to keep me and small dog covered. I HATE changing the cover so have a sheet under it. On top of it I have the patchwork quilt I finished recently. Small dog isn’t allowed on that (every stitch by hand) so I fold it back at night.

My answer to OP question is to be aware at all times that men can make beds too you know.
Some claim it's just a rumour but don't let you're DH pull the wool duvet over your eyes.

Oh goodness I couldn't go backwards to the world of blankets on my bed. I feel the cold and duvets trap in the heat.

Are single beds the best idea? I couldn't face the constant moaning. I would never go back to sheets and blankets but have a top sheet under the Duvet. I can't see how it takes so long to make a bed with blankets unless one of you is a very restless sleeper and bed clothes get tangled.

It's not just the weight of blankets, modern ones are quite lightweight but the cleaning of them. Some can be washed but need to be treated with great care or dry cleaned. Duvet for me, blankets need a lot of care by comparison, then there is the issue of do you take your top quilt off at night losng a layer. Condition of blankets on bed, your DH makes it or yiu have single beds though may have difficulty getting them to match, not many quilts have duvet covers to match.

We have a superking size bed and have a single duvet each, we both like different weights. I just fold the duvets back each morning. If you want the made bed look, get a nice cover that can be folded and put on your blanket box each night.

I live in Scandinavia and here we always have single duvets, when we come to the UK stay in Hotels etc. I loathe the dubbel duvets its a tug of war all night! I cant imagine having to change the duvet covers if it was a dubbel duvet, single is bad enough!

If he wants his blankets back let him buy them and then make the bed every day!
We have single duvets on our bed and it's great ... the scandi husband feels the cold and needs a high tog while I sleep with a summer-weight all year round.

OMG simple solution new single beds or new husband - have you been having 'this' for 12 years -lol

We have a wool duvet, too. It's good at temperature regulation but I find it doesn't snuggle down round the body and it's very heavy when changing the cover.

I use a top sheet now so the duvet only gets changed on alternate linen changes.

We have bottom and top sheets and a duvet. None of them is ever ironed, very little is ironed here

Let him make the bed and do the 68 steps he might change his mind.

Ditch the sheet and have a single duvet each...easier to make the bed.

I first encountered duvets in Switzerland in 1951 and have had them since they first came on sale in UK. I don’t bother now with duvet cover but have top and bottom sheets and a bedspread to cover during the day. Only have 4:5 tog duvet winter and summer because i cannot stand weight on my old arthritic knees. I do have an electric blanket to warm the bed before I get into it.

If he were my husband I would tell him to take his choice: either he makes the bed if you revert to blankets, or you sleep in single beds from now on.

Solution: Seperate beds. He can have what he wants on his since he will be expected to make his own. Won't he?

Stansgran..... I would walk 5 miles rather than struggle with another duvet. I’ve hated them from ‘day one’. Thirty years of stuffing those duvet covers ! Arrrghhh! I’ve only ever had 3tog Weight ...and still used to overheat at night even in winter. My hubby and me now in queen size beds each ...he has duvet still ,which I insist he changes ...and I’ve gone back to the bliss of two blankets ( £145 !?!?) leave them on shelf and go to Dunelms , or on -line. Fleece blankets will do the trick. £15 each!. Nice light bedspread...job done!

A compromise - get a wool duvet. They are wonderful, settle around you like a blanket, and are so much more comfortable to sleep under. I am a complete convert to Devon Duvets, and have also bought wool pillows and a mattress topper which is blissfully comfortable to lie on. We were cool in the hot weather as wool regulates body temperature.

Duvet for us. I remember my first meeting with a duvet, on a holiday in Switzerland in 1968. Thought them very strange initially and then discovered how wonderful they are.

I love layers do have sheets light blankets and patchwork quilts. Easy to throw one off if it gets too hot but I also find the weight so cosy.

I’m afraid he would either have to make the bed himself, or have separate beds, and be responsible for his own. Does he dislike the duvet because he is cold?

OH has fleece sheet and duvet cover, and they are unbelievably warm (he really feels the cold, and I don’t). My daughter also loves the fleece covers.

I like both duvets and blankets from a comfort viewpoint, but couldn’t go back to the faff of blankets and sheets when making the bed.

I bought two single duvets for our bed when the king size one got difficult to change. We both find them very comfortable.
