What's it like living in Lyndhurst?

NfkDumpling - point taken re the shops. We currently live in a village where there are none so to be within walking distance of the Lyndhurst shops would be brilliant.

I will look into what's going on in Brockenhurst, too.

Meant to add - you'll likely be going in the opposite direction to the tourist traffic too.

It can be alright living in a touristy place. The summer is full of wandering people yes, but they remind you of how lucky you are to be there.

The traffic isn't a problem provided you live within walking distance of the shops, as you don't use your car and smugly have a parking space!

I live in Hampshire and agree that the New Forest is a lovely area especially around Lyndhurst.However the traffic in and out of there could be a problem. As already suggested, Brockenhurst might be a better option. I would love to live anywhere in the Forest but it might be worth having another look around before you decide where to settle down.

I'm afraid I would avoid anywhere likely to be a tourist destination, by the coast or not, I hate and try to avoid Bath in the summer
We were in Lyndhurst last August (not from choice) and we gave up and went somewhere else because the traffic was ridiculous.

As a child we often spent holidays in Lyndhurst and DH and I spent the first night of our Honeymoon in the Crown Hotel.

Sadly, I think it has changed out of all recognition. The one way traffic jam in the summer months would have me heading for the hills. Or in this case somewhere quieter!

I do love Hampshire though especially Lymington, but that area is very expensive.

What about somewhere like Brockenhurst. Or Sway. Wouldn't mind living in either of those places. Shame the local grocer in Brock sold out to Tesco though.

I confess the traffic would put me off. I've crawled along in that area on more than one occasion.

And less than an hour from our daughter and grandchildren too, jing, so it is tempting. Just worried about the summer traffic.....DH is not the most patient of drivers.

Oh, I think it would be lovely! Only know it from visiting though. Near the lovely forest, and fairly close to the sea. Nice shops too.
