After extensive, intensive chemotherapy when I lost all my toenails but preserved my fingernails by keeping them taped up I can sympathise. I have visible thinner vertical lines in some finger nails which easily split . I've been using a range of remedies and nail strengtheners and finally after about 3 or 4 years of consistent use I'm seeing results. Two nails no longer show these weak spots so fingers crossed the others will follow suit. The most successful remedies have been Opi repair mode solution and at least three times a day Hard as Hoof application. I've not attempted to wear any nail polish for at least 6 or 7 years.

I trapped my thumb in closing a VERY heavy metal gate about 12 years ago and it split the nail vertically about half an inch. That half inch took about 10 years to grow out,, needed an emery board regularly to stop it ripping at the top. Once the split had grown out a vertical ridge right to the base still remained. About 6 months ago I suddenly realised that the ridge was no longer there it had faded away in a matter of weeks!

Then I trapped the other thumb nail in something so am watching it with interest!

I Googled. Vertical splitting nail and some useful information came up.
The internet is amazing. It could be caused by anaemia, a vitamin deficiency or a thyroid problem. It àlso gives advice about ways to fix the nail to allow it to mend.

Mine were like that’s it’s taken years to heal my vertically split thumb nail. I’ve been taking collegen supplement for 6mths and being diligent with my nail strengthener Miracle Cure nail strengthener, the splits have grown out now but I still have the ridges. So good improvement but I think the ridges are just an aging thing so I’ve not much hope of getting rid of them.
I think the collagen has improved both nails and hair thinning but some people see no improvement.

My nails are a mess. I have vertical ridges which are starting to split.

Anyone else? Anyone have a solution?
