Recalled for a further appointment after a routine mammogram

I had a routine mammogram appointment last week and this morning I got a letter asking me to return for further tests next week.
The letter says I shouldn't automatically assume there's anything to worry about but I can't help wondering what has shown up on the mammogram and am now anxious about it.
Has anyone had this happen to them?

It’s chilly sitting around in those silly gowns!
Thinking of you.

Thankyou ladies thanks
I'm sitting in Reception, knees quaking a bit but feeling positive x

Yes I've never ignored mammograms or any other routine tests bikergran I'm grateful for them, it's just a few minutes of discomfort but it can save your life.
Glad all went well for you x

Yes same circumstances. Had usual Mammogram 2025 got swift letter back with recall.

Had further tests a lump deep down was found.
Had lumpectomy, radiotherapy all went well.

Consultant said I would not have felt the lump.

So thank goodness for routine Mammogram.

Good luck at least they don't keep you hanging around long.

.
Yes Lucky girl the waiting is definitely the worst bit, I just want to get in and get it done

I hope you will have some clarity soon. The waiting is the worst.

I've had a biopsy taken when recalled and results given about an hour which was great as I'd been expecting a further period of worrying waiting for those results. Fingers crossed yours shows up nothing on the next scan and I'll be thinking of you. Please let us know how you get on.

It's happened to me twice and both times they were normal. Sometimes the scan can show something that maybe doesn't look quite right so they have to he absolutely sure which is a good thing because if it did turn out to cancer it would have been caught early. I know it's hard but try not to worry as it's much more likely to be nothing.

There's a saying "Don't waste today worrying about tomorrow". I try and remember this when something comes along to bother my brain! I hope all is well for you.

A person I was at college with had been recalled on 6 occasions. Every single time it was a lump which turned out to be a harmless cyst.

I had that, and had a breast biopsy as a result. It turned out to be nothing serious, but I was told to request a mammogram in three years, which I did, and my appointment is next week.

I had a call back once, was terrified but everything was fine - it was just a water filled cyst that they drained the same day. They explained everything as it was done. Had several regular mammograms since with no call backs.

While living abroad in different countries I had annual mammograms and each time I was recalled for biopsy. The results were always negative but each time I saw a consultant who explained everything to me (micro calcifications). Back to the UK and no recalls or further tests. Not as thorough on the NHS?

Grandmabatty

I've been called back twice and it has been calcification spots both times. Very rigorous retesting which put my mind at ease.

I was the same.

Thankyou all so much. It's amazing to me how people I don't even know can care and give support when it's needed.
I haven't told my family I'm going back because I didn't want any fuss, so I thought "where best to ask for advice?" and you've been a great help.
I'm thinking positively and hopefully it's going to turn out ok, roll on Tuesday
Love to you all xx

i got recalled after my last mammogram, said there was small deposits, had 2nd mammogram, poked and prodded and was about to be given a needle biopsy ,when the radiologist double checked, conferred with the specialist and said that the deposits were on my skin. Panic over. Scary at the time

Cossy Sat 02-May-26 19:01:17

Yes, I have, they did a further ultra scan on one of my breasts and all was ok, they simply couldn’t read part of the mammogram thoroughly.

Easy to say, but please don’t worry x thanks

dunnowhattodonow Sat 02-May-26 18:58:01

I had a recall after my mammogram 5 years ago, they said it maybe a parenchymal distortion. I was absolutely terrified and thought the worst. I went back and had more detailed ultrasound/mammogram and they said it was ok. I had another routine mammogram 2 years ago which was normal. I still dread the results every time I have to go though.

Sassenach 512 I was called back a few years ago and had to have a biopsy , they discovered something very tiny and I could wait to see if it changed or have it out , I chose the operation and all has been well now for a good few years . I am sure you will be ok xxx

4allweknow Sat 02-May-26 16:21:25

Yes, I had a recall. Quite worrying I know. Turned out the technician hadn't carrying out the mammogram procedure correctly and gave undefined parts of images. The centre I was called to carried out another mammogram as part of the review and discovered the problem. Do hope all goes well at your visit.

Almost every time I have a mammogram I have been called back in. I have had multiple mammograms, Ultrasounds, MRI scans with and without contrast and biopsies and worry every time but things have always been negative. Some people have very dense breasts and lots of calcification which can show up as concerning areas on mammograms. In the majority of cases follow up findings are benign but if not most breast cancers are very treatable if caught early so try not to worry too much

I had to have a biopsy many years ago but it was fine. I'm often called back after routine mamagrams, I'm quite large and apparently my breast tissue folds back on itself when compressed and looks like a lump.

spabbygirl Sat 02-May-26 15:35:00

yes I had that, I was seen by the consultant who said I did have a lump but she felt it & saw it on the screen & it was an empty lymph gland node which had been inflamed & no longer was but was stretched now & wouldn't go back to its former size, its a permanent lump. It is scary, but now I see how many things it could be. I wish you well with yours.
