What time do you get up and go to bed?

I go to bed at 10 and don’t always sleep well. I get up a lot in the night for the toilet. I wake about half past 8 when my husband makes me a cup of tea but don’t get up until nearly 10 most days. I would love to be an early riser but just can’t do it.

Glad to see I’m not the only one getting by on 5-6 hours sleep (sometimes less.) The light is off by 10 and I drift off quite easily but wake around 2 to use the loo. I usually manage to go back to sleep but always wake around 5.30. I’m not up till 8 though and use the intervening hours to have a coffee, do some admin and too much scrolling!

Bedtime usually 12.30 - 1 am but tgen I read for about half an hour. Awake by 5 am and again read until 7.15 when I'm up. Would love to sleep right through to 8 am but just never happens.

Try going to bed and getting up at the same time everyday. 10 might be a little early for you as you are trying to sleep 10 hours. You probably need nearer 8 hours

Bed at 9.30, asleep by 9.32, awake at 6.30. Tea and breakfast in bed up at 9.30 to face the day.

I’ve read all the other messages Quietlife and there are some good answers especially about drinking. Could it be habit? Are you anxious thinking about your night? There are breathing exercises which take seconds to calm you and let everything relax from your head/neck down. I was terrible at sleeping and tried everything and this has helped. I go to bed at 10 and read for 1 hour every night. I wake at around 3am always, then after a short while sleep until 5 or 6 and get up. I do hope you find something to help you have a better sleep.

Up at 7.00am, bed at 10.00pm

I'm actually in bed now and probably won't get up until 2 or 3 a.m. This is quite usual for me and I enjoy rising at dawn.

I am in a guest house at the moment as builders started work on my house and I wanted to get out of the way. My project manager told me he has multiple personality disorder and was in prison for burglary. Sounds completely mad but I know he's going to do a good job. I can feel in me water.

I go to bed at 1am play games on my phone until 2am then sleep for 7-9 hours. I've tried very hard several times to go to bed earlier but then I'm awake until 4am ish tossing and turning. By not going to sleep until 2am I fall straight asleep within 5 minutes and sleep soundly. I've been like this due to shift work years ago when 11pm until 2am was our busiest time. Wish I could change it but I can't. If I have an early start I fall asleep in the day to make up the lost hours.

I go to bed anytime between 9 and 10 unless I’m out in the evening. I tend to go up and read as DH has tv on so loud downstairs and we watch different things usually. I’m awake a couple of times in the night and always awake from 6 ish I don’t get up until 8.00 to 8.30 am most days.

I get into bed at 9 - ( I go early as I have a neuro condition and if I get cold I suffer!) I watch TV until 10 then sleep. Usually have to get up in the night for the loo but manage to get straight back to sleep. Radio comes on at 5am (I'm nearly always awake), listen to radio 4 until 6am then BBC Breakfast on tv. Husband makes a cup of tea some time before 6.30. I do the wordle, quick flick through the news articles on his phone then up for a shower by 7. Breakfast when I have dressed straight after shower.

Up between 7 and 8am, bed between 9 and 10pm usually as hubby watches things I'm not interested in so I go up and read.

I’m a night owl. Bed 1am to 3am ish.
Then get up about 10 or 11.
I’d like to be a lark. But I’m not. So it is what it is .

My dog persists in wanting out in the garden after midnight if the weather is dry, The result is I get to my bed later than I'd choose to do so. I try to sleep as late as I can in the morning and I reckon seven or eight hours of sleep is average for me.

If I’m only going to watch TV, I quite often go to bed 8pm and watch TV! Lights out 10.30 pm and one comfort break in the night, then get up 8am.

When I first retired, and kept getting asked 'What is the worst and best thing about retirement?', my reply to Best thing, was always - not having to set an alarm clock and letting myself wake naturally.

This was a long time ago, and I do use the alarm most days now.

I had sleep apnoea (undiagnosed) for some years, and was so.....very tired increasingly. Was going to bed about 9 pm, up several times in the night for loo trip, then up about 8 am each morning, but falling asleep in my chair for a further hour after my breakfast.

Once I got my CPAP machine everything changed.......I now go into my bed just before 10 pm, but then spend the next 60 - 90 minutes listening to audio book whilst doing Sudoku puzzles. Settle down then to sleep (put on mask), now only need one loo trip each night (about 4 am ish), and usually go back to sleep pretty quickly. I always set alarm for 7.45 as I like to be out of bed by 8.00 am

Quick shower, then long brekkie (just mug of tea and porridge), but then spend a happy hour on laptop - before getting dressed and going out. Most days I have something to get to by about 10 ish, prefer morning things, and rarely go out in the evening - that is my tv and knitting time.

Read for an hour before bed, usually asleep by ten, Wake up about 5 for 'convenience/ comfort!', go back to sleep and wake about 7.30 a.m. I need my sleep to function all day or else I get tired. My two aunts used to take a nap between about 2 and 4 in the afternoon and no one was allowed to disturb them. They would go to bed, read, snooze.

I think my bedtime is too early. I usually fall asleep around 8:45-9. I wake nearly every night around 12-2am and it takes quite a while to fall back to sleep. I’ve tried staying up later but if I am home I cannot stay awake. I dread being out late and I dread the idea of sleeping meds, even Melatonin. Not sure what to do tbh. Screen time like right now surely can’t help. That much I do know grin

pably15 Sun 19-Apr-26 23:04:19

not an early bedder, usually between 11 and 12, if I have to have a toilet trip during the night, which I usually do, it means I'm usually awake for a couple of hours, but get up about 10am

Curlywhirly Sun 19-Apr-26 17:59:35

Go to bed at about 11.30pm, read or scroll the Internet until about 12.30pm/1.00am. Wake any time between 6.30am - 7.30am. I only need about 6 hours sleep, can't seem to stay asleep any longer than that. However, once awake in the morning, I read the online papers and catch up on social media and, unless I have somewhere to be, only get out of bed at 9.00/9.30am. Loving the fact that as I no longer work, I don't have to leave the house at 7.30am, especially in winter, and certainly don't miss scraping ice off my car on a cold dark winter's morning!

HowVeryDareYou2 Sun 19-Apr-26 17:39:36

I go to bed between 10.30 and 11.30. I wake a couple of times for the toilet, but don't sleep very peacefully anyway. I'm up between 7 and 7.45. I'm 67

LOUISA1523 Sun 19-Apr-26 17:35:28

Bed at 11 to midnight .....up at 7 if in work....otherwise up at 9

misb Sun 19-Apr-26 17:21:25

My cat comes to get me at around 10.30pm-do not know how he knows!
Sometimes I concur, sometimes not,but I will be reading in bed for about another hour at least.
Get up around 7.30 am,aided by the cat sometimes when he scratches the bedclothes.

RosiesMawagain Sun 19-Apr-26 17:15:04

Does it matter?
Does anybody care?
At our great age, can't we do as we like?

Magenta8 Sun 19-Apr-26 16:26:58

Even though I have been retired a long time, I still wake before 6am and I am usually up before 7am. Most nights I am in bed before 9.30pm but I tend to read for quite a long time before putting the light out.

I don't keep these hours and get up at silly o'clock for any particular reason, it just seems to be the way my body clock works.
