Peripheral neuropathy

Has he tried benfotiamine, vitamin d, R Alpha lipoic acid & get B12 checked?. These help with nerve repair. Avoid sugar, alcohol, high carbs. Some sufferers find pain relief with LDN. If he's tried all these then he's probably exhausted most avenues. I have heard of some having nerve blocks. What is the root cause of his PN? Is it diabetes?

Is it just cold toes? Or does he suffer from loss of balance, tingling in the feet and hands?

Thanks DollyRocker. We havnt tried some of the things you mention. Havnt heard of LDN. He was told by a Consultant that there is no cure but there may be helpful remedies.
He had chemo 2 years ago and I feel possibly that made it worse. Not diabetic.

I have relatives who have developed this after chemo and also after statin use
In addition to the things mentioned sonething like reiki or acupuncture might be worth a try ?

I suffer badly from it in my feet as I have type 2 diabetes. I read that putting Vicks Vapour Rub on my feet might help. I thought it was daft but decided to give it a try. It has made a fantastic difference and enabled me to sleep more easily. It might be worth giving it a go.

DH had it following chemo. As well as prescribed Gabalin, he too was recommended either a menthol (Vicks) or capsicum (pepper) ointment.

Unfortunately nerve damage cannot be reversed.
The aim now should be for careful management. Keep the feet as warm as possible but avoid extremes of heat. Eg comfortable warm baths or showers not too hot and pat dry carefully with fluffy towel.
Obviously avoid extremes of cold too.
Always wear footwear with rigid sole eg proper slippers when in house not just sox. Nor bare.
Inspect feet closely perhaps with hand mirror or you could help.

Yes chemo is definitely a cause. I'm afraid it's management of the pain. Gabapentin, pregabalin, amitriptyline, duloxetine. Some people use medical cannabis too and as I said LDN, look on the LDN trust or research trust? Water exercise is helpful.
