Varifocals ot two pairs of glasses?

I had varifocals for years and had no problem getting used to them. Now had cataract surgery, and no longer need them, but if necessary I would choose to have varifocals again, rather than faffing about with two pairs.

Once your eyes have been tested you can get specs online, with all your requirements, much cheaper than on the high street.

Love my varifocals, reactolite too, two pairs of glasses would be a nuisance to me.

I’m another who couldn’t get on with varifocals. I tried for 10 months but have recently gone back to 2 pairs of glasses.

I couldn’t get used to varifocals either so stick with my bifocals . Also have reactolite lenses to protect from the sun.

Could not get away with varifocals, kept falling on the stairs and could not use them for computer work. The Optician said I could return them and go back to two pairs of glasses which I did after one month trial.

I had exactly the same. Having 2 pairs of glasses is not ideal but much better than falling over.

My opticians have a deal for people new to varifocals. They will let you have the glasses for a month and if you just cannot get on with them they change them for bifocals or 2 pairs of glasses and refund you the difference.
I didn't like them at all. Coming downstairs was scary. I have 2 pairs of glasses now and cope very well with them.

Varifocals for me too, had them for a good few years now. As someone else posted, I had to be careful going down stairs at first but soon adjusted to it.
I also have prescription sunglasses but am thinking of asking about reactolite varifocal lenses to eliminate having to carry them when I go out.

I get vertigo so varifocals are not advised. I have an old pair of bifocals which I still use and separate driving/ tv glasses.
It’s a faff swapping but varifocals do take a while to get used to according to people I know.
Another friend has had layering about 15 years ago which means she doesn’t use glasses at all.

I have had varifocals for years without any problems but I now find it easier to read and work on the computer without them. I asked if I could just have glasses for long distances but the optometrist said I would be surprised how often I do use the reading bit, for example when looking down at the dashboard when driving .

I wear varifocals too, but as I like reading in bed, where your eyes are in a different position to when you’re standing or sitting up, I have tried reading glasses in addition. I couldn’t get on with them though, I felt disorientated, and went back to wearing the varifocals for everything. When I told the optician she said she had tried them too, but had the same issue.

I tried varifocals a few years ago and had great difficulty getting used to them. I only need the distance bit for driving and reading flipping text messages on tv, general walking around, shopping etc is fine.
When I reported my difficulties to the optician - a different one to the original - she questioned me closely and said I shouldn’t have been offered them as I suffer from benign positional vertigo.
This was a number of years ago and I would imagine the lens have advanced somewhat.

I have separate ones. I often wear older pairs of reading glasses but it’s important that I wear the most up to date driving glasses for insurance purposes. I do have to be careful not to forget to put my driving glasses on. I do have cheap reading glasses too that I can just throw in my handbag but if I wear them a lot they make my eyes feel a bit funny. I seem to lose lenses from my glasses every now and again. It happened to me when I was away from home recently and I’d only taken one pair of reading glasses with me. I do have anti glare lenses in my driving glasses. A mistake I always make is having my eyes tested, finding I need new glasses and having to choose the frames quickly. Next time I have an eye test I’m going to go to Boots beforehand and try on lots of glasses to find frames that I like that are comfortable too.

Varifocals for me too. Mine have reactolite lenses so protect my eyes from the sun as well

My friend has varifocals which are reactolite and so serves as sunglasses as well.
She is 72 and loves the fact that she doesn’t have to change glasses all the time .

Well I guess you’ll wear glasses for reading and glasses for driving and take them off when you’re not doing either of those things, so why wouldn’t you do the same with varifocals?

Id find it a bit trying to keep swapping and I know I’d go out in the car and then realise when I got to the shops or the restaurant that I hadn’t got my reading glasses, but I expect you’re better organised than me😁

Also had varifocals for years it took a couple of days to get used to them but so much easier than keep swapping glasses. I don’t wear them all the time though.

I have varifocals and had them for years. The first time I had them it was a bit strange especially when using stairs for the first time but you get used to them very quickly. I have the one pair and can use them for driving, tv and reading without having to take them on and off. You will definitely need them if you drive. I am also in my 70's. 73 to be exact.
You can get some lovely frames nowadays. Mine are just simple metal frames.
