Covid vaccination winter 2025

Our surgery is starting on 1st October. Flu and Covid , one in each arm I suspect. They usually do those with a medical history first and then by age…though they do try to do partners together. They rang us last week to make our appointments.

I’m getting over Covid.
58 & healthy.
Tested positive a week ago.
It’s really knocked me for 6.
Still feeling lousy.
It is very much still out there and certainly not the ‘bad cold’ that a lot of people think it is.

To me quite poorly equates to very poorly. I know I keep going on about it but I’m still annoyed that people don’t seem to be getting the help they need ( as with ME) when they have long covid.

I had long vcovid before there was even a name for it. Right at the beginning.
Doctors understandably at that time, didnt know what to do with me. As it hadnt existed before.

No, the person I know with ME has had it decades.
Things not that much better now, than then.

I heard about the covid couple, 3rd hand.
I am always sceptical about anything I hear 3rd hand.

And "quite poorly" means different things to different people.

I will be 75 in January but have been offered flu and Covid vaccines, due on 4th Oct. My friend who is year younger has been told she does not qualify despite the fact that she is the main (and only) carer for her 76 yr old husband who is severely disabled with MND. He will get his vaccination, but what happens if she falls ill? Seems a bit short sighted not to include carers in the rollout.

Some of you may not have heard of many cases of Covid because the majority of people aren’t testing. They get a ‘bad cold that’s been awful’ or similar description, I’d bet a fair few have Covid.

I’ve had it this week been wiped out.

I’m getting only the flu jab, same as last year.

DH had a Covid vaccination on June 11th and has had a letter with an appointment for 4th October for another.
We live in Wales and he is over 75 and immunocompromised .

Anyone could have mine. I’m not having anymore.

I am 89, I think I had the flu jab earlier this year, went on web site, no one around here is able to book a covid jub..

I'm 74. Was extremely fit (though coeliac) but had Covid in 2021 just before being called for the vaccination. I've had Long Covid ever since. Long Covid is more common than you think and it changes your life. If you can have the vaccination, please do. Sadly, I can't, as the last 2 vaccinations gave me nasty heart palpitations and the dr says it may not be wise to have another.

hi, I saw this message as well but went on the NHS website and looked for the flu jab and when I got to the flu jab option there was also an option to tick a box for Covid jab. I am 69 and I got one booked, my husband is 67 and I booked one for him and I also booked for my brother who is 66 so it seems rather confusing. Do try looking on the website and don’t give up quickly. I live in London by the way.

I would be fine with their decision to only vaccinate the over 75’s if it was based on scientific evidence changing since last year. However I would like to know if it is for financial reasons, if it is could the 65-74 year olds at least be offered it at the amount it would cost/save the NHS - again I do not know but would imagine it is less than £75-£100.

I would hope they would make an exception for your husband, babs, and for yourself in your circumstances, it's quite worrying. I daresay there will be people who can't afford such a sum who will now be at risk.

Yes I think that if you go to the NHS covid booking site you would be able to book one for him. You can often book a flu jab for both of you at the same time. My husband is vulnerable and always has both as soon as they are offered, it's often quicker to book and get them done at a local centre (such as a hospital) rather than wait for your GP to offer.
Although I'm under 75 I always try to get a Covid vaccination at the same time as my 79 year old vulnerable husband and usually they are willing to do this. I'm sure that it cuts the risk of infection for him.

My SIL got opcd she under 75 can't get it ..

Did you just book the flu jabs or the covid jabs as well, am confused because my husband is 74 with serious underlying health concerns but can’t book a covid jab unless he is immunosuppressed or in a care home, because the present age for covid jabs is 75 and over.

Yes, it let me book a Covid jab for us both this year after entering all the usual details, though only my husband is technically eligible. It isn't for a couple of weeks so not sure yet if mine will happen.

My DH is seriously unwell and can’t get it either.
On the NHS website it won’t let you get past the page that asks if you are immunosuppressed or in a care home.

Quite a few people locally have been very poorly but most don't have test kits now. One was going to see a vulnerable relative in hospital and took a test - positive - just as well she did,

A lady I know ell has advised not to have the covid jab this time. It is becoming clear that more people are needing hospital treatment with the side effects of vaccination which hasn't hadd much time to be proved. This lady is a senior nurse, head of Emergency Nursing in a karge hospital. But who knows?????

TBH I think if covid was a big threat the covid vaccine would be rolled out quickly to everyone who wanted it so my advice is have the flu one and don’t worry.

My husband is offered a covid vaccine every six months and has already been offered one this season, as have most of the very elderly around her.

I had it the week before last, I'm 63, it was awful, I've still got the sore throat. Definitely more than 'just a cold'
