whitewavemark2 the surgeon said he’d try to do laparoscopic surgery but may have to resort to open; so yes, you’re right about recovery time.
I’ll get the Kindle loaded up with books and languish around the house until I’m better.

Honestly key-hole is a doddle. I went in at 2pm, and was back home tucked up in bed by 8pm. Slept like a log and didn’t look back!!

The whole experience was so impressive with a calm relaxed atmosphere, surgeon and anaesthetist telling me exactly what was happening and the nurses with lots of cups of tea and biscuits when I woke up! (Tea was rubbish though)

Yes I’ve already had keyhole, but it had to be abandoned due to adhesions. It was a good experience apart from being told when I was barely awake from anaesthesia that they were concerned about cancer.

I don’t think it is uncommon for gall bladders to get stuck to other organs. It does presumably mean that your recovery time will be a bit longer I guess. Still if you can plan for that you can while away the time very pleasantly as you recover😊.

And you won’t miss it!

Just a bit of an update for anyone interested. I had my scan results today.
Good news - they found no malignancy and I’m scheduled in for a second op in the summer. It may be a bigger op with open surgery instead of keyhole and it will certainly be trickier as my gallbladder is stuck to various organs but I’m just so relieved to get this outcome.
Thank goodness for the NHS. ♥️

Mrsmeldrew good luck with the cutting down alcohol. I’m not a big drinker but I do enjoy a few glasses of wine at the weekend. Since all this, I’ve decided to reduce this by half. I can’t say I feel any better but it can’t do any harm. ☺️

Thanks Sillyoldbird. It's another chronic condition to add to the others he has. And of course there is a shortage of the Creon tablets he needs to take for the condition.

He had a scan for pancreatic cancer when this condition was diagnosed and he got the all clear which was very good news.

The consultant said he had to stop drinking alcohol as it would damage his pancreas irreversibly. He has done this - 2 weeks to date, fingers crossed. I am proud of him as he does like a beer or two. I have also cut down alcohol consumption as I feel guilty so that has to be a good thing.

Mrsmeldrew sorry to hear you and your husband have been through something so traumatic.

That’s a long wait! I was only 5 weeks from the GP referral to seeing a consultant. I don’t know how long it will be for my next op (if that’s what happens) but don’t expect I need to go back to the bottom of the queue.

I hope he made a good recovery despite the setbacks and his ongoing issues.

I am glad you have an op scheduled. My DH was on the waiting list to see a consultant for 9 months with acute pain episodes from numerous gallstones. Eventually his gall bladder ruptured and he got sepsis. He waited 3 days for an operation. Luckily he survived it.

Unfortunately now that his gall bladder has been removed he suffers from a condition of pancreatic insufficiency. Of course this wasn't mentioned as a consequence at the time.

I wish he had been able to have his gallstones removed as this would have been avoided. Good Luck.

It does seem things have improved for some operations.

Thanks! Surprisingly, I’m coping ok now.
I wouldn’t say I’m on top of the world, but I’m not panicking quite so much now I’ve started to think more rationally.

The scans are not just to rule out anything nasty, but to see how bad everything is stuck down and what approach they can take for surgery.

I know that part of my initial panic reaction was because of my anxiety and the clumsy way I was told about the abandoned procedure.

I have to keep telling myself that gallbladder cancer is very rare and that my symptoms actually fit chronic gallbladder disease, which is the main case if the adhesions they found.

Fingers crossed I’m right .

Oh Sillyoldbird I’m sending you a virtual hug. Waiting and worrying is the pits isn’t it? I have terrible health anxiety so I can totally empathise with your distress right now.

Maybe try an OTC calming product? You could ask at your pharmacy. A bit of a crutch to lean on for the next couple of weeks while you wait. Kalms or Bach’s Rescue comes to mind.

Glad it’s all done, you just have to wait now. Hope it wont be too long. Keep calm and carry on. Chances are all will be well.

I’m ok thanks Silverlining. Scans all done this week and now waiting for results. As far as I know, they take 2 - 3 weeks.
