Grammargran I live about 4-5 miles from Heathrow but am not on the flight path. The winds were apparently 100mph there whereas here we had sunshine and calm until a slight breeze early pm. I cancelled a coffee with a friend, one never knows what the weather will be like.

I feel a bit mean saying this but it’s been quite a mild Spring like day here in Gloucestershire ….

I have a fabulous bus service. My problem was getting to the stop, which was only about 1/4 mile away, but my poor knees protested a lot, and other parts of my body, like my lungs, told me a cosy car was preferred.

I will give up my car within weeks if it is repairable. I prefer to do it myself than be forced to because some idiot has walked in front of my car.

I am hoping my replaced knees will "see me out".

Please do not give up your crutches or sticks too soon. It is not worth adding more pain and maybe being unsteady when outside and unable to do anything about it.

No call so have had to go online and let them know. Nit that anyone will pick this up til Monday presumably. Grrrr
I am a huge nhs supporter but since Covid it’s all got so difficult to get an appointment at the surgery, or even get through to them at all.
If I go in person they can’t/ won’t help with an appointment it’s just Soooooooooo frustrating.

I've spent the day watching the wild weather and the swaying trees.

I've also had my ceiling painted. I was surprised to see the painter today given the red weather alert, but he turned up and did a good job.

Lucky you Silverlining with eConsult. Our wretched surgery abandoned it some months ago and haven’t replaced it. Just one telephone line is the only means of communication. Don’t get me started - this thread is for hips and knees, not surgery rants …..

Wish we had buses here, 14 miles from central London, no buses, well at least none within a 20 min walk…. and they are not reliable.
Still here 8 hours later, awaiting a call from the surgery.

I have a Toyota yaris which serves me well. It's cheap and cheerful. I've paid it off. It's insured for others to drive too so I lend it out.

I am well off for buses here so don't depend on a car but it will be good to be able to drive again in 3 weeks or so.

I managed to get onto econsult yesterday and had a message saying they woukd contact me today. So far so good.
I have spent all day carrying my mobile and landline phones around with glasses and my notes to remind me of what I need to remember.
It’s getting dark and I am still waiting, have been like a coiled spring since this morning.

Running on water sounds a bargain Charley. Glad you are ok.

We had a Skoda too, fabia, our first and only new car which was drowned in a storm surge while parked at Dover cruise terminal docks. 200 cars were written off. We had paid £300 parking…. It was hardly reported in the local press which I never understood . . Our insurance pay off was only miserly enough to get an older car with none of the bells and whistles we had paid extra for and to add insult to injury we were deemed to be at fault. Even though we were sailing the high seas and had legally parked….
Bitter? Moi? Oui !
What I did learn was that if a car is written off even if it’s not your fault, they need only re place with another car for one week.

I did not notice it for days or weeks. I drive on my own 99%% of the time. My car was being used to transport friends for a meal. It is a two door car. I rarely open the passenger door because it is such a pain. It would not open so we had to take a cab to the restaurant.

I hate the car and should never have bought it. An elderly lady bought it and decided she was giving up driving after 2000 miles on the clock.

It is a Skoda CityGo with wind-down windows, and the only way to open the other door is to lean across. There is no lock outside. The only thing in the car's favour is that it appears to run on water.

I am Scottish, hence the purchase.

So basicallyCharleygirl someone hit your parked car and drove off. Must’ve been a shock to come back to - how did you get home? Did it affect your joints?

MaizieD I also do not know what happened to my car—I do know it was not wear and tear! I have been puzzled because there is a little outside damage, but how it affected the boot's non-opening also is beyond me. Maybe the man who picks it up on Monday may have a better idea.

I have turned down the offer of a hire car.

Feel for you Charleygirl, our car was stolen and we are not replacing it.
Was seen in October and was told to be referred for tkr. No news rang them no referral in place so have done econsult to gp.
In the meantime, I need to increase the pain relief and find a physio methinks. Do any creams help?

What a shame it happened though. Just glad you weren't in it at the time.

The only two good things are that I was nowhere near the car and that the other vehicle must have been in a similar state to mine.

Aveline I have no idea where or when it happened. I would prefer for my car to be a write-off because after a decent amount of time, if it is repaired or whatever, I intend to sell it as my driving days are over.

I park in narrow streets with cars parked on each side, and it is very difficult to get past the cars. I have no idea how it happened. Somebody is coming on Monday to pick the car up and take it locally for an assessment.

I had intended to sell it in early March, but a lot depends on what is wrong,

silverlining I have 15 miles of the A12, the M25, the bridge and then the last bit, so it’s a bit of a trek for me. Fine when DH was driving, but now I’m on my own it’s not such fun!

I have lost the will to live, having been told a stationary accident, I do not know where or when, there could be wear and tear! Somehow, I do not think so.

At least the car is being picked up (driven) to a garage the insurance company suggested.
