I'm back home.
I have progressed from a frame to arm crutches. I'm slow but I get there in the end. I have been discharged with injections , iron tablets and codeine, I have done nothing but sleep.
My daughter picked me up earlier, she has stocked my fridge up with a selection of fresh fruits.
I had an x-ray this morning and I have to return in 2 weeks for a would check.

That is the one good thing about being in a private hospital, good food, decent coffee. your own room so peace and quiet.

Silver lining, I'm also in a private hospital with an nhs contract.
My appointment was 11:30 even though I needed to be at the hospital for 7:20am.
The food menu is really good. Loads of choices.

I was the last operation on the list on the Wednesday evening. I stayed that night, the next morning while still recovering and being sick for some reason, I was told I was to be discharged first thing the following morning.
This was a private hospital with an nhs contract,
I was discharged on Good Friday morning and the whole hospital closed for the Easter weekend, it was really 🤔 quite bizarre.

grankle I stayed in hospital for three nights after my hip replacement last December. I was last on the operation list so wasn’t back in my room until 6.00. I had hoped to go home after two nights, but the physiotherapist wanted to make sure I could do the stairs safely. I was much better after the third night.

Yes. Best to stay in another night.

Charleygirl, I don't think that I am being discharged today.
After my physio and a short walk, my bp dropped. Physio coming back later for another go.
I would prefer to stay another night.

My garden shed is a treasure trove of gadgets but I am keeping mine because I am certain my right hip will be next in the queue to be replaced. I was hoping it would "see me out" but the pain wakes me am and I cannot lie on my right side.

I’ve put all the gadgets away because I know I’ll need them when I have my other hip replaced later this year🤞.

Thanks Aveline, it's been 10 months since we've seen each other due to my various hospital stays so we're very excited.

It's a great day when all the impedimenta required post op is finally cleared away. I felt really back to normal then. Enjoy your DDs visit.

Today I'm ringing our county equipment provider to ask them to collect all the gadgets they lent me. I'll be glad to see them gone. My blind daughter is finally coming to stay soon, oh joy, and I need to make my flat reasonably free from hurdles for her. Yesterday did a lot of gardening and was surprised at my stamina; still getting used to what a difference my new knee has made!

That is really good. Thanks for letting us know. You may have some pain but you are only going to get better from now on.

Hooray! So glad it's done and has gone well. That's the worst over- the only way is up now.
However, have a peaceful night's sleep. Keep the fluids up.

Hello everyone.
I am now the proud owner of a new right hip.
All the staff have been lovely. The anaethtatist was kindness itself and my Orthopaedic Surgeon was so reassuring.
Having said that, I am really pleased it's over. I was a nervous wreck this morning.

Not long now grankle. You will be painfree very soon. Glad you have the help of your daughter, at least for a few days.

Grankle it sounds as though you are more than halfway there. This time tomorrow it will be all over.

Please do not forget to mention you live on your own. You will need to learn how to "do" the stairs because when you go out you will find there are so many steps around.

Grankle I hope tomorrow goes well with your new hip. I found it helpful to move plates, dishes, mugs etc onto the work tops, as mine were all in low cupboards and I wouldn’t have been able to get them out as not allowed to bend!

Sounds like you're well prepared. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine and so glad of the op. See you on the other side -as they say!

I live in a bungalow and have a walk in shower and a tall toilet, that will help. I also have an electric chair that will help me get up. These were put in place when my husband became ill. I lost him 5 years ago next month.
Our daughter has been a really good support, taking me for appointments and getting the odd items that I missed from my supermarket delivery. She has offered to stay with me for as long as I need her.
She has her own family and starts back to school the first week in September, I don't want to put too much on her.
I am going to try and do as much as I can. I like your idea, Mizuna, and will definitely get my flask out.
I have to be at the hospital for 7:30am, I am hoping that tomorrow at this time I will have a new hip.
Fingers crossed.

Between us we have a few hints and tips.

Grankle if you are allowed to part lie on your unoperated side, as well as a pillow between your legs it is more comfortable to have one against your back also.

I haven't posted before, but I read the thread in advance of my op...😆

In the last few days several people have told me how much I've changed since my knee replacement and last night my son, who I last saw a week ago, said, 'Mum, you look so different, so much younger!' All because I can stand straight and am not in pain. A miracle really.

Grankle, I had both hips replaced four months apart. I live alone and had no help, by choice. But that's just me. I dreaded sleeping on my back but to my surprise didn't mind it. I made a flask of hot drink in my kitchen, sitting on the raised stool the hospital provided, then carried it to my bed-sittingroom in a bag around my neck. I ordered Parsley Box meals for the microwave. They're good quality and don't need freezing.

I had a spinal block and found it much better than a general anaesthetic. It is strange not having sensation immediately after the op but you're in good hands and it wears off fairly quickly. I came home after two days but didn't feel rushed and would have stayed longer if the hospital felt I needed to. All the best for your op.
