Pneumococcal and shingles jabs in Scotland

I had them last year at 68 ,two seperate jags,no side effects .I'll take anything they offer me these days .

I had both separately but at the same time last year.
The publicity online said you had to wait till the September after being 70, which it wasn't, but the surgery offered me them anyway.
Maybe the doctors are just hoping to head off trouble by not waiting for official dates.

I know someone who refused the shingles jag as he thought he was fit & strong so didn't need it.
He got shingles shortly afterwards and still has unpleasant effects, a year later.

I was invited to have the pneumococcal one but they said I was too young for the shingles one. Absolutely fine after the jab.

I had both last year. NHS Grampian. Same time, different arms. No problems. I think they were catching up then, as I was newly 71.

DH was refused an early shingles jab and told he had to be 70 to have it, even though he was at high risk. His Consultant said we couldn’t get the jab before that for love nor money. That was 2019, so maybe it’s changed.

I'm sixty eight and had the Pneumococcal jag years ago, probably because I have serious lung conditions.
I haven't been offered the shingles jag, but wondered if it is because I can't have live vaccines or because blood tests a few years ago showed I have an immunity to varicella infection.
Although I believe there is a non viral one, if required.

I wouldn’t worry, Marydoll. The pneumococcus jag is offered to people younger than 70 (can’t remember from what age, I’m afraid) but the shingles one is usually only offered from 70 up to 80. There has been a certain amount of catching up after covid, which is perhaps why some of us who had never got round to having the pneumococcus one are getting it with the shingles one. You may not be offered the s one until you’re 70, and most people get the p one only once - I know you have medical problems, so I suppose you might be offered it again.

Turns out the text messages I had about pneumococcal and shingles jabs was a mistake. Got the pneumococcal one yesterday but won’t be called for the shingles one until I’m 70, which is what it says on NHS websites.
