As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

3 years after her marriage Diana was deeply in love with someone else
We'll be working.
Many opinions will surely be available after the coronation.

Can't believe I typed that, it was because I was reading other posts!! 😲
William and Catherine
I am pleased that Charles has Camilla by his side. I think she will be a great benefit to him as he takes on his role as King at an age most of us enjoy taking things a bit easier.
I am a royalist, I love the traditions of our country, I will be watching the coronation.
The problems of his previous marriage are long ago, and it takes two to make a successful union - neither of the two involved were faultless and it should have been put to rest a long time ago.
Koalama I feel as you do, I just cannot 'take to' Camilla and I only have to look at her self-satisfied expression in photographs to feel bitter. OK Diana was a poor choice but to my mind Camilla was a worse one and seems to have actively helped destroy Charles's marriage to Diana.
Diana had no concern for the wives of the men she had affairs with
Presumably that applies equally to Camilla.
I wish them well, it’s a tough job to take on in your seventies.
I agree with all who have said they should have married in the first place, Diana wasn’t treated well, but she was no saint either.
I don;t understand why people get so het up about something that happened 4 decades ago to otter people they don;t even know.
I’ve warmed to Camilla over the years and I do think they make a good couple and are right for each other. Having said that I think she should be Queen Consort not Queen. Prince Phillip was never King and the Queen and he had never had a rather sordid affair. I think she’s being rammed down our throats a bit. And I think he’s made a big mistake with this swearing allegiance to the King stuff as well. And I am someone that has a soft spot for the Royals and respect Charles for being so ahead of his time conservation wise.
Struggling to imagine why you think any of the people you mention are preferable to Camilla. No idea about her, or any of them really. I will watch because I enjoy the spectacle of the occasion - as I watch all ‘Royal’ coverage - but not because I think the people concerned have any merit. Royalty, gentry and privilege should all be consigned to the past IMO. Most of these people still own vast land stolen & given to their ancestors by the Conqueror after 1066 - why they should be regarded as ‘noble’ is beyond me, particularly when many added proceeds from slavery to their riches. I do enjoy a spectacle though, & it’s an excuse for a nice get together.
Would we have all the castles and stately homes that many of us love to visit if we didn’t have royalty?
Charles and Diana may have had a fairy-tale wedding, but it turned out to be anything but a fairy-tale marriage. Diana was from the start quite rightly unhappy about Charles' relationship with Camilla, and her apocryphal quote that "there were always three of us in this marriage" more or less sums up how doomed to failure it all was. I believe that she was cynically selected by senior Royals as suitable "breeding stock", and now find it rather ironic that Camilla, who was originally deemed to be not of sufficient status to associate with Charles, is soon to be crowned his Queen. It has been said, perhaps unkindly, that she is "the Mistress who made good". Perhaps if the Royal family had not been so dysfunctional and so obsessed with status, Charles would have been able to take Camilla as his first wife, and all would have been well. They do seem well-suited, but as for "Queen" Camilla, I suspect that there will be many Royalists who will struggle with this. In my own case, as a lifelong Republican , titles and allegiances are of no interest to me. I will watch some of the Coronation ceremony, but only out of interest in its significance as social history.

Hi Jane
Projection?
I don’t know, it baffles me too.
But then I rub along okay with everyone really, whether I know them or not iyswim.
Live and let live, innit 🤷♀️
Camilla has proven herself to be a fitting Queen to Charles, she has proven herself to most of the senior Royals, otherwise would have been ousted long ago. Loves this country, does much for charity causes. Met at Sandringham, appears warm and friendly, her and Charles laughing away with the crowd, comfortable with us "commoners". As she herself is, or better still has the human touch. So will be watching and possibly shedding a tear or two. Celebrating our wonderful history. Yes I'm a Royalist, stability and continuity in our Constitutional Monarchy .
Thankful for the castles etc - at least!

Charles was deeply in love with someone else from the beginning of his unfortunate marriage.
The throne should pass now to William and Kate, let's have a clean start.
It seems to me that a number of people appear to be unaware of the two different definitions of 'queen'. When a female is sovereign in her own right (as were Victoria and the two Elizabeths), any spouse is not a king. However a king's wife is (his) queen. Camilla's status bears no comparison to her late mother-in-law

I agree. I think her crowning is on Charles insistence rather than hers tho.
I’ll watch some tv coverage. I rather enjoy the kings horses and men . Beautiful horses, very skilled riders. I’m interested in history and this is a historical event.
I don’t know enough about Camilla to ‘judge’. I’m always surprised how strongly sone posters (yes, you again) feel pro/anti Camilla and Diana. Having said that, I find it impossible not to remember that 19 year old being groomed into a role for which she was unsuitable. She eventually got therapy and had a brighter future……

Thanks. I didn’t realise this. I do love pomp and ceremony and horses. Throw in bagpipes and I’m gone! I’m not religious but, if I was I think I’d have to be high church with incense and stuff floating around!

I won't be watching either but that's nothing to do with Camilla or Diana or monarchism/royalism. We simply don't have a telly.
It's worth having it on via the radio as there are some fabulous musicians (Bryn Terfel, Roderick Williams) and some newly commissioned compositions from excellent contemporary composers.
There is no reason why Camilla should be queen - she can be queen consort or whatever.
