I like Camilla and think she is perfect for Charles and the Royal family. BUT I just can’t think of her as Queen. Consort ok but not Queen. Prince Phillip never became King but was always the Queens ‘stead and stay’.

(391 Posts)As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate
Thanks Sparklefizz I didn’t realise that. 👍

Slightly off piste as I don’t want to start another royal thread.
I wonder if Harry will swear allegiance to the King at the Coronation. The tv cameras are bound to film him at this moment.
I read that nobody will swear allegiance except William.

Also thanks, NotSpaghetti- she writes very well and has great insight.
Thank you, NotSpaghetti, that was an interesting read.
Thoughtful piece of writing by one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed Wolfe Hall very much.
I know this isn't really relevant here, but I felt I'd like to post this from some years ago.
A beautiful written piece by Hilary Mantel on the myth of the princess which some of you may also enjoy:

I went back to find it Callistemon, because I remembered it saying that Ruth Fermoy had actually advised against the marriage saying they were a different sort of people... but the bit that I found interesting this time round was about what would have happened if she'd had an "ordinary" life.
I think Camilla’s fine. She knows when to keep her mouth shut, she blends into their family and seems to be a good support for her husband. I am one of the very few who always thought Diana was flaky. Very good looking and all that but not a future Queen and never would have been. Very sad how it has turned out with Harry but families are like that, everyone is different.
I'm looking forward to Saturday and am going to London to see the procession, also recording it on the TV to watch afterwards. I think Camilla will do a good job as Queen. She supports the King well but doesn't hog the limelight. He is certainly a happier man since they married. Good luck to them.
What of her father ? For me the villain of the tragedy, he was an equerry to the queen and her father,
I do think Diana married Charles to pleased her father, it is well recorded that her parents wanted a son after two daughters, but another daughter, inheriting titles is so important to these people.
Nannies have spoken of how jealous Diana was over her father, she pushed her step mother down the stairs .
A damaged child .

TerriBull - why didn't Diana's own family see how unsuited they were?
I wouldn't have wanted to rush my daughter into a very public marriage so quickly.
It really amazes me.
Her grandmother was pushing for the marriage.
Charles will be a better king with Camilla, I like her for that reason and because she seems down to earth. Dian would not have made a good queen, IMHO. I don’t agree with all the wealth they have etc. and the whole “thing” needs to be be slimmed down to a small core of working royals.

Maybe I used the word grooming incorrectly - thanks Anniebach. In any event, I didn’t see Charles as grooming Diana, more the work of the men in suits.

Indeed.
The two grandmothers were keen too, as far as I remember.
They weren't the ones getting married.

I'm going to watch the arrival of the guests and then switch off. I can't stand Charles or Camilla and have neither can my husband so we're looking forward to a day without tv!

The late Queen’s wish was that Camilla should eventually become Queen Consort, so I’m surprised that Charles has chosen to go against his mother’s wishes, especially so soon after her death.
Camilla is the Queen Consort, JenniferEccles. That's what the wife of a king is – as was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon to George VI, Mary to George V, Alexandra to Edward VII. And they were all called Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary and Queen Alexandra. Nothing untoward has happened, nobody has gone against anybody's wishes.
Nothing to see here, move along please.
Well said, Terribull.
I felt sorry for both Charles and Diana, they both tried at first.
But it was never going to work out.
It's no good anyone thinking that she would be in the Abbey beside Charles had she lived - no, she wouldn't have been.
Mind you think there is far more enthusiasm for the Eurovision Song Contest
You have to be kidding!!

I don’t take to Camilla, and I can’t even say why. It’s nothing to do with Diana. She just doesn’t seem very queen-like to me. I was reading the words of the service and thinking how absurd “Vivat Regina Camilla” sounded. I don’t like the word ‘commoner’, but that’s what she is, and I don’t see how marriage to Charles will change that.
Both Camilla and Diana are descendants from the illegitimate children of Charles 11. Distant cousins to each other.
This whole royal thing, along with Lord and Ladies is so absurd in the 21st century.
Will be carefully avoiding any of this rubbish next Saturday. Mind you think there is far more enthusiasm for the Eurovision Song Contest than there is for this expensive jolly for those who already have too much of our our money,.
I don’t see her as naive , Kate gave up working in London when the press hounded her, Diana handled them with no problem.
Diana grew up with the Royal family, lived on Sandringham estate, holidayed in Balmoral. Her sister dated Charles. I really think wanted to be queen, what a gift to her father.
Another cracker from you TerriBull
I really liked Diana, I felt vey sad when she died so suddenly. In retrospect she had all the hallmarks of an arch manipulator. Possibly at the time it amused me to see how she always appeared to be several steps ahead of hapless Charles in the whole revenge is a dish served cold sort of way. I didn't blame her in that back then I felt she'd been used and deceived, she was so young and naive at the outset of their relationship but developed into a pretty canny woman before her untimely death.
Times have moved on though and as others have said Camilla is clearly his soul mate, she seems decent enough. I'm not an avid royalist but I wish them well.
