From people who have lived for 60 years or more ,have had good jobs and decent lives ...maybe its just that they've never been interested in whats going on around them ,but surely people know the basic rules of "hereditary monarchy"?
If they dont then why the hell do they think its OK to still have them?

Not that I think he'd have any chance at all.

I'm not a staunch Royalist but I do enjoy reading about them. (it's like a soap opera) I've come to the following conclusions:

1) No one prevented Charles from marrying Camilla, he dithered for so long she eventually fell in love with Andrew P B so married him instead.

2) When he married Diana he had a few mistresses in the background, one was an Australian woman he called Kanga who was madly in love with him and never got over it.

3) Camilla wasn't the only one Diana was Jealous of, she publicly humiliated Tiggy LB by insinuating Tiggy had been pregnant with Charles' baby

4) Charles went on TV and told Johnathan Dimbleby that he only resumed his relationship with Camilla once his marriage had broken down. For all his faults I don't think he would lie about it but it does make a mockery of the "three of us in this marriage" line.

5) Diana had a few affairs with married men making her the third person in those marriages.

6) Camilla likes dogs - Diana didn't.

There's no denying Diana was a wonderful mother and did some very good work but she was also brilliant at manipulating the media and writing her own version of history. Camilla has made Charles very happy and seems able to handle his moods and tantrums. I have no problem with her being queen.

Well this is what you get with a hereditary monarchy, you don't get to choose who is crowned, they do.

If only there was a way of choosing who was Head of State...

As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

However I was interested to note when the Queen made her views public, ie in February of last year. I wonder if that was when the diagnosis of her bone cancer brought it home to her that a plan for Comilla’s title on Charles’s accession to the throne had to be in place?

The difference is the same as that between Elizabeth 1st and her mother, Anne Boleyn. Elizabeth was a ruler, she was Queen in her own right and Head of State. Anne was Queen, but only as long as she was married to Henry (who could have divorced her, in which case she would have lost the title). It was an honorary title, Queen in name only. Camilla, and Kate in her turn, will be the same.

QE2 was Queen in her own right, so Philip wasn't King. There isn't a male equivalent of an honorary Queen. He would automatically have outranked her.

The Queen said she should be known as Queen Consort and now she is to be queen. This doesn’t sit well with me. Yes they get on well but Queen is hard to swallow.

No, but as I understand it, if Philip had become king he would have outranked the Queen. This is why Elizabeth 1st never married. As King, Charles will outrank Camilla whatever she is called, so the line of succession remains in place.

Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, wife of King George VI, became Queen Elizabeth after her husband was crowned king. She kept that title until her husband died and Elizabeth II was crowned, when she became Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, eventually shortened in general use to The Queen Mother.
