Very anxious about biopsy on the roof of my mouth

A few years ago, my sister had a strange lump on the roof of her mouth that looked like a blood blister . She had a biopsy the result being that it was cancer. It was a rare cancer and strange that she should develop it as she has never smoked and doesn't drink much alcohol.
She had a good surgeon who removed the cancerous lump and some of the tissue around it. She had to wear a protective device on the Roof of her mouth and couldn't have anything hot to eat or drink for a while.
Everything healed well and she got the all clear. She has been cancer free ever since.

DaffyDill - I don’t know a lot about this- was there a lump ? All these lumps and bumps we find, more often not, turn out to be harmless cysts. Don’t worry too much, says someone who worries, even I sneeze more than usual. But seriously, take your mind off it by watching some comedy on TV, and do not read too much online. That’s the worst thing you can do

I had a biopsy on my left breast and the experience was better than I expected (except I had Stage 1 cancer) with two lovely radiologists and little or no discomfort.

Hi, Dafffydil, I understand your concern. I have had biopsies on my tongue twice, years apart. I had local anaesthetics each time, and plenty of pain relief later. I told the staff how anxious i was and they were very understanding, explaining everything that was happening and playing music in the background. The results reassured me that there was nothing sinister so the discomfort was worth it for peace of mind.

I can well understand how you are feeling. I had a lump removed from my gum and a biopsy. I too was very anxious but it turned out to be a papilloma and non cancerous. This was all in lockdown. The removal was painless with a local anaesthetic. I did expect to feel very sore afterwards but it was fine. Hope all goes well.

I haven’t had any biopsies, but have had a few ‘investigations’ and on the first occasion I told the nurse who checked me in that I was very nervous, this was written on my hospital notes.
The Consultant explained everything to me and was very understanding, it was then put on my notes that I suffer from Anxiety ( all of the time not just for hospital visits) and they are always very helpful and seem to take extra time to calm me down.
The last time I went my BP shot up so they had to give me time to calm down before the procedure could go ahead,

So it’s really beneficial for you (and for them) if you explain that you are worried about the procedure. I hope it goes well for you.

Thank you for all so much for your replies I have had the lump as long as I can remember but my dentist thinks it has grown
It feels the same size to me.
I am terrified of the dentist so the thought of the biopsy and any other treatment fills me with dread .

I've only had a breast biopsy years ago and it was all ok, although after an check up with GP yesterday she has referred me to the breast clinic again.
I've also to get a lip biopsy done for my Sjorgens disease and I'm not looking forward to it, but we are better getting all these things checked out. Tell them you are a very anxious person just like I do, they will take great care of you.

If you have had the lump for a long time it is unlikey to be cancer, more likely benign. Try not to worry.
