Here is the new thread! Thank you to regular and irregular posters all.
Especially those such as Silverling and Charleygirl who have provided so much advise and support. (There are lots of other lovely posters, but too many to list).
As well as advice, there is also much wisdom and kindness.
I will link to the first and second threads below.
Wherever you are on your replacement journey, you are most welcome to join us here
Think Susie and I had our ops at the same time so can’t comment on feeling cold. I also had a slightly sore part of my scar which lasted longer than the rest to heal up. You are right dte, it’s barely 3 weeks since yours, so patience required. Think how you felt on the first few days and how much you are doing now. Then congratulate yourself.
Thanks Susie the exposed bit feels dry and tight, and the open bit is covered but feels sore, only to be expected. It serves to remind me that Although 22 days and doing well,I am still i the recovery period, like you bei g alone means you have to do everything,so you feel as though you are doing well, thankyou for your reply
Good morning * downtoearth* my scar also had a small dry scab for weeks . I was frustrated as the physio said that I shouldn’t go into the swimming pool until completely clear. It will gradually reduce. I did use bio oil once it had completely dried up. Can’t comment on feeling cold as I had mine done last April and recovered during the heatwave! My problem was keeping cool. Possibly it’s the fact you can’t move around very quickly to get the circulation going . It’s still quite chilly I think - my heating came on briefly last night and this morning.
Hello old friends on this Knee and Hip thread. Glad it's still going as I found it so useful. I'm now post Knee replacement 17 months and Hip 9 months. All good, back at the gym, scars slowly getting paler and I've lost 18 lbs in weight, now I can move!
Best of luck to all those waiting for Replacements and continued good health to those post op.
Susie. Talking with a friend today, she is walking the thames path and went to Maidenhead then caught a train to Bourne End ( once an hour) where the river is immediately available. Her next walk starts frim Reading I think. The white cliffs walk is my best day out. I never tire of it.
silverlining I know the St Margaret’s cliff walk quite well- beautiful. DH didn’t enjoy walking but could be persuaded sometimes when we visited his home town. Charley girl I really enjoyed my trip although I found out later that the river is much nearer Reading station so that will be another plan .downtoearth I know what you mean about getting bored with local areas. I live very near woodlands but I found that I needed level ground and paths at first which left the local streets, not very inspiring after a while.
Most councils run free walking for health groups, might be worth looking into it got later. In the meantime take it easy and have a little walk round the block when you feel up to it,
Hope you get the all clear today dte. How are you doing? I am walking again today, about 4 miles. We are a group of friendly walkers then lunch together afterwards. Always good and it’s a lovely day for it, Hope you all have a good day too.
I am at that stage where I can get up to 2.500 steps every other day with a quieter day after. But I am at the stage of wanting to be out and about,so bored with my surroundings. I feel pleased with my progress,I am not using crutches indoors, and only one when going for a walk. Today is 3 weeks since surgery. I am doing the 4 post technique to get us on the list
I live in London and I think when I have a free day and no grass to be cut or tradesmen almost living here, I may take a trip on the Elizabeth line from beginning to end, hopping off where I fancy. As it is a new line each station will be step-free or at least have a lift so no worries there.
Sounds like a lovely day Susie. A walk by the river is akways nice and 4 miles us not to be sniffed at. I am near London but rarely go but like the sound of your trip. As to Deal, its next to St Margarets Bay/Dover which is a lovely walk along the white cliffs. Cafe in the lighthouse and a nice pub on the beach st St Ms. My favourite walk.
Morning all - keeping this thread going, a friend and I had an adventure yesterday . We used our wonderful freedom pass to take the Elizabeth line all the way to Maidenhead . Then a lovely walk along the Thames , I find water walks so relaxing . Not as far as you silverlining but a good 4 miles and no hip pain ( don’t mention the back !!) and great fun to walk somewhere new . Planning another soon- maybe a day trip to my late DH’s home town near Deal and a sea path walk .
