Going to have a new hip!

I had both hips replaced last year, when I had actually gone to the consultant about my very painful knee quite a long time before that. He said the hips should be replaced first, so I've had to wait ages to get my knee replaced. Am hoping it will be done in the next few months. My hip replacements are amazing, very successful. Done on the NHS in a private hospital.

Best thing in the world having my hip replaced. Pain was almost gone over night. Make sure you do your exercises. Have a high chair such as a Parker Knoll so you don't strain stiches etc getting up from a too low seat. Also a high foot stool to keep your leg raised,

Friends didn’t have to wait long for a hip replacement as they were prepared to go at short notice and prepared to travel. Both in and out the same day which I was amazed at. Good luck.

Have found the thread, thanks! The problem is though, it is not just the hip. The arthritis started in the knee, and that is where most of the pain is. So would be interested in anyone who is having the hip done first. I think the Consultant thought the hip is more restricting, whereas the knee can be worked on better with exercise. Not sure.

Hi MayBee70. Yes have been doing exercises with Versus Arthritis and seeing a physiotherapist. There is also a group at a local sports centre that do classes for people with arthritis, mobility issues. I might join it.

The only advice I can give if you’re in line to have a new knee is to make sure you haven’t got a fungal nail infection. A friend of mine was all geared up to have a new knee only for the operation to be cancelled because they found she had a fungal nail infection. I know it sounds a bit weird but it isn’t something you’d think about. She then had to wait ages for her knee because of the pandemic. Are there exercises you can do prior to having a hip op?
