Cold symptoms

In my family minor illnesses have become worse since covid (not coronavirus illness as we test a lot) I mean colds, sore throats etc. I think because of social distancing and lockdowns everyone's immune systems have not been so active so when we do catch something we suffer more.

Agree with Lucca, we all need to continue with hands, face, space. Keep on taking precautions, none of us know how vulnerable the person next to us might be.

There's research going on into Covid vaccines which would be delivered by a nasal spray.

Whether we test or not, behaviour is what matters. Hopefully people are not going out or mixing if they have symptoms.

Runny noses and sore throats are attempts by the body's immune system to get rid of whatever it's being infected by. They're actually a good thing.

There's evidence that Omicron is affecting the respiratory tract nearer the point of entry than other variants did, especially if a person has been vaccinated. In some cases, there are symptoms even before a person becomes infectious or the infection shows up on a test.

With luck, antibodies kill off the Covid infection before it has a chance to do too much damage. I hope that explains the phenomenon of Omicron cold-like symptoms and why some people are testing negative even with symptoms.

Unfortunately, some people have weak immunity and the infection will then travel further and invade vital organs, which is why it's so important that those with weak immunity receive antiviral medication within a few days of initial infection.

Please could everyone do a test ! For the sake if those of us who are CEV and don’t want to be hidden away …

I’ve never had had a headache with a cold, usually sore throat, bit of a cough, sniffy nose and ‘muzzy’. The headache I had from about 1am Wednesday morning was a humdinger, prefaced my +ve test last night, no sore throat either.

Interesting theory Cabbie! My colds usually begin with a scratchy throat, then I start sneezing and subsequently coughing, due to post-nasal drip. Catarrh too, but rarely temperature, headache or muscle aches.
When I got Covid it was exactly the same- only knew it was because I tested.

DH & I had different symptoms when we had Covid about 4 weeks ago ..he had a sore throat & streaming nose, I had swollen neck glands & was a bit snuffly as our initial symptoms..which is pretty much how a general cold begins for each of us.

I agree, when my sister gets a cold she has a chesty cough, I get headaches but rarely a cough.
