Splitting thumbnail

I used superglue when I had that problem. I built it up in layers, buffed it down with an emery board then a buffer to bring up a shine and applied nail hardener to the natural nail and cream to moisturise the nailbed. It took ages and there is still a weakness but by keeping the nail short it is at last under control.

I had a few split nails for years and I’d given up hope of any permanent fixing. However, they are totally back to normal now and I’m putting it down to my daily dose of vitamin D.

I have two splits in one thumbnail I keep them covered in clear strong nail varnish and keep it cut short. It’s been 5 yrs and one has healed completely but the other one still splits if I catch the edge it’s never healed completely it’s very annoying.

Try giving it a few coats of clear nail varnish? Especially one of the extra strong types . If you Google vertically split nail they recommend glue , Then pressing the two sections together then buffing it when dry. I would get someone to help you apply the glue as you could get in a mess otherwise.

You could go to a nail bar and they would put an acrylic coat over it. I split a fingernail recently, and it worked well and enabled me to use my finger normally until it had grown back again.
