NHS App - Medical Records

Katey is this app available nationwide? I mean does it apply to all GP surgeries in the UK? It would be very interesting!

I’ve not got much info on mine about specific appointments or treatments, no copies of letters etc. I don’t think it is intended to be a full record of all your doctors files just things like vaccinations, mine lists my flu jabs as well as Covid ones. I don’t think it goes back many years, there is no information about previous doctors for instance.

I on,y downloaded it to get a record of my Covid vaccinations in case I needed it for holidays or event tickets. I’m not sure I’d like to have my full medical history carried around with me on my phone!

BlueSky, yes, you can download the NHS App, it gives you your Covid Vaccine Details plus some other basic info, you can then request your GP surgery to add your coded medical records. You can also order your repeat prescriptions and make appointments through it.

If your GP surgery has switched on for you to get access to your medical records on the app (not all have) then you will see a summary of your diagnoses with date they were added, your prescription history, allergies, adverse reactions and vaccinations. What you won't see is the free text recorded during consultations, and probably nothing before the record started being used electronically. All records must have an up to date summary of your conditions, going right back, but the rest is not accessible. However if NHS Digital gets its way, the entire whole lot will be extracted and stored in a massive central database (big hacking risk?) with access given to private companies unless you make the effort to tell your surgery you wish to opt out by 25th August!

Mine has vaccinations, drug allergies and prescriptions on it. Nothing else at the moment.

Thanks all. I thought it was too good to be true, doubt our G.P. will have all details of consultations, blood tests, scans etc but will try.

We are entitled to see all our medical records back to day one! I had a particular reason for wanting to do this. I had to apply via the Practice Manager and I must say they were a bit cagey about it.
However, all my records were there back to my birth, I found it fascinating and rather moving. They gave me about an hour to look at them in a private room. My GP popped in occasionally to see if I was OK which I appreciated.

If you have access to your GP health record in the NHS App, you'll be able to see your summary record. It contains information about your medicines and allergies. If you only have access to your summary record, you'll see a message on your GP health record. Also, The HealthVault is a personal health record app available for the web, windows, and iPhone. With the application, it is easy for the patients to store, record, and share personal medical data with any doctors or healthcare providers through the internet. Sometimes you can't identify a pill. Fortunately, you can identify the pill using a specialized tool available on the web.

My first recorded information was a rubella immune test result when I was pregnant with my first baby in 1983. I was hoping to actually see all the vaccinations I had received from birth, but not there. Just dates of cervical smears and mammograms and any prescribed medications and test results from the 80s onwards I think. I was gobsmacked to find I had had 68 test results listed, but since I have had appendix, gall bladder and two ovarian cysts removed, the blood tests to detect problems covered multiple test results. No record of when I actually had the operations though.

So, not really exciting. But I can download proof of Covid jabs for my holiday.
