Do you know your blood group if so do you give blood

O neg. I can't give blood because I've had cancer.
I'm too old now anyway.

B neg, and yes. I have an appointment booked for the first week in June, and that’ll be my 49th. I have a friend who’s hoping to make her 100th donation later this year.

My immune system is so damaged that I have to have my antibodies replaced regularly. I would have no defences against infection without this treatment. I am grateful to everyone who donates blood and plasma, you give me a quality of life that I couldn't have dreamed of 5 years ago. A vaccine against Covid-19 can't help me because I don't make or retain antibodies but my antibody replacement therapy will with time.

A pos, I am surprised at women who say they don't know their blood group. When you get pregnant it is the first blood test they do, I was given a printed card and used to keep it in my wallet.
I suffer from ailments that are typical of blood group A, digestive disorders and am better if I follow a diet that eliminates the irritants.

A+. I used to donate but not now I am older. Am a bit perturbed that my group might be more risky for the virus. Also thought O group was universal donor. Have I got that wrong?

I am O Neg and have given 65 times. I started as a student. I was due to donate next month but received an e mail to say nobody over 70 was allowed to attend sessions at the moment. As previously said, they love my blood, which can be given to anyone in an emergency.

I know my blood group but it is no use to anyone, except me. New Zealand will not accept blood or organ donations from Brits because of mad cow disease.

O positive; gave blood for about 15 years then had to stop as I had a blood transfusion after major surgery.

AB+ here and also allergic to penicillin! My recent donation was cancelled but they don't often need my blood group anyway.

I'm O neg, I was told I'm.a universal donor, apparently anyone can receive my blood.
I was a regular donor for several years, in fact the Blood Transfusion Service used to send a car to pick me up from school every 6/8 weeks to take me to the centre to donate blood through a process called plasmapheresis, where I donated blood but received my red cells back to prevent anaemia. This was in the late 70s, I stopped going when I was expecting DS2.
Ironically, when I was being prepared for possible section to deliver DS2, I had to wait for ages for them to find a cross match for my blood.

TrendyNannie6 - I am AB negative too! Less than 1% of people in the UK have this group so it is the very rarest!
I gave blood for years, 36 donations, but had to stop when I started taking a certain drug they didn't like.

I'm O+, have given blood in the past but no longer allowed since I've had breast cancer. Apparently I can't be an organ donor either, for anything except the corneas.

O+ and no I don't give blood, I've been told I can't and nor can I donate my organs.

My children who emigrated to Australia can’t give blood there because they lived in the UK at the time of Mad Cow Disease.

I’m Orh neg, I gave blood last week, very different with the waiting area chairs spaced out for social distancing, being asked not to arrive more than 5 minutes before your appointment etc. The nurse said there was still a full attendance so this hasn’t stopped people from giving which is very encouraging and let’s face it, it’s a trip out! This time the the nurse who did the blood drop test remarked on how quickly it went down, I did wonder why until I remembered I’m going through a phase of enjoying a lot of spring greens at the moment!
