I've had a quick look and there are several.

There are very detailed analyses being done at the moment and I’ve read a very detailed report on over 700 people who have been admitted to critical care, their demographics, underlying problems and outcomes. There’s no way at the moment that we could be given the information re died with/ died of ( or even ever) on a daily basis but later on medical records could be used. Crude numbers will have to do but within that trends can still be obvious. The MN thread on all this is brilliant.

Just because someone has the virus in their body doesn't necessarily mean that it was contributory to their death. The 21 year old who died of a heart attack may well have tested positive for Covid-19 but it does not follow that it contributed to her death.

My father had early stage bladder cancer when he died. it was in no way contributory to his death, which was caused by a longstanding heart problem.

The UK is using the same methodology as Germany for reporting deaths.

Oopsadaisy My understanding is that the opposite is true in the UK. The 21 year old who died and who was Covid 19 positive wasn't recorded as a Covid 19 death because she actually died of a heart attack. If anything, the UK is underreporting too.

This is one of my favourite websites, for so many reasons. I find statistics fascinating (yes, I’m aware of how sad that sounds!).

I’ve been surprised by how our media and political figures constantly churn out the raw numbers on Covid 19, rather than the much more meaningful per capita figures. Yes, countries have different ways of counting cases, deaths, etc, which skew the statistics, but we can still get a good, reliable overview from worldometers.

I’vebeen hooked on this website for the last week. It has LOADS of different statistics. Never mind Coronavirus - the rate at which the world population is increasing is terrifying

In Sweden , it’s business as usual, according to ‘our man in Sweden, BBC’ they are limiting gatherings to 50 from tonight apparently. It’s because fresh air is important and it will worry everyone if they have to stay in.
Well, let’s hope that works then.

And we are only counting deaths in hospital.

Oops on another thread I’ve asked if anyone has a link about the German figures. If you look now at the German figures on a graph, the trajectory is similar to ours ( and many other countries). One explanation given of their low figures early on was the younger age profile of those contracting it. For me the basic question is, if the person had not caught COVID-19 would they have died now? My friend is doing well on her chemo medication for her lung cancer but would probably die if she gets the virus. IMO if she did, it would be the virus that killed her, not the cancer. Without the virus she has some time left - 2-3 years hopefully

Same here - except that it might not always due to deception. It could also be that not all countries are efficient at recording data.

I thought there'd be some jiggery-pokery about the death counts.

I saw a couple of things tonight, one was that the Chinese government is under reporting deaths from Covid 19 and the other was that in the U.K. no matter what your underlying health problems, if you contract the Virus and die then the cause of death is Covid 19.
In Germany they are reporting the death from the underlying condition and ignoring the fact that the patient also had the virus, which is skewing the virus death figures.
