As others have said you did your very best for your dear husband and when the going got tough you were there for him. I know he will be proud of you all. I hope the day will not be too stressful for you, please remember, and you must believe that you were the kindest and caring of wives. You did everything, and a lot more, to make sure your husband was safe and cared for- even though there were many times when it caused you a lot of heartache, but you never gave up on him. Who could ask for more?

I dont think its fair to ask the nearest and dearest to speak and I dont like the "line up " to shake hands .You do what you feel you can its your decision and nothing wimpy about it.I'll light a candle in the morning for you and your family .Wishing you strength and peace

Lucky neither my DH or myself felt we could read at my MIL's funeral so we put together some memories of her life and the vicar read them out during the service. You would be expecting the impossible if you thought you could do it.

I shall be thinking of you Lucky. I hope you feel better and the feeling of nausea passes before tomorrow. You will get through this, you have a lot of support from family and friends, and all of us here will be virtually holding your hand.

Very wise decision Luckygirl - I have seen too many people overcome by their emotions, one being a retired vicar friend who thought he could conduct his late wife’s funeral. He said it was “the last thing he could do for her”
Poor man, he could not hold it together and another mutual friend, also a priest, had to take over.
It also gives your SIL a role in the proceedings which is nice. He will appreciate being included.
Our DDs all did readings and the SILS were among the pallbearers going into the church.
(I said I didn’t want them to do it coming out as I felt their wives might need their support)
My 2 older grandsons (8 and 6) held my hands going in, which was very sweet of them.
You will be very much in my thoughts tomorrow - it’s not going to be easy, but it will be worth it to also enable others to express their feelings for your dear DH.

Not at all Lucky. I couldn't do it either so asked our Minister to read on my behalf. My girls, much as they wanted to, couldn't read either so a friend stepped in. You will get through tomorrow head held high. I found it easier than I’d anticipated, surrounded by family friends and many others, who were all there supporting us. We’ll all be with you in spirit and holding you in our hearts ❤️

I have decided not to read my memories at the funeral - my son-in-law is going to do this for me. I just do not feel I will be able to hold it together. Am I a total wimp?

Good luck for tomorrow Luckygirl. I think you might be surprised at the turnout. My Dad was a doctor and, although he retired 22 years before he died, many patients turned up at his funeral and also children of his patients. It was lovely in a way.
I hope you feel a little better physically and that you let your family support you tomorrow and after that too. You could do with some TLC!
