Anyone with compromised immune system

I have an autoimmune condition but rarely if ever succumb to any seasonal illnesses. I do take a lot of supplements though to avoid as many medications as possible.

I can only suggest Echinacea which boosts your immune system. It has served me very well for many years and stopped many virus infections from taking hold. I have no idea which brands are best but the ones from Healthspan seem excellent to me and I wouldn't use anything else. You can take 2 daily at the first sign of a cold or perhaps 1 daily over a couple of the winter months as a preventative. You shoudn't take them indefinitely though.

Unfortunately I not allowed to take Echinacea so I’m stumped there, but as far as I know I can take multivits, I’ve always relied on eating healthy but obviously it’s not working so I need extra help, when I say not working I mean I should be adding something else to help more, I don’t drink or smoke,

Sorry to hear you are so restricted on what you take. Dr Google may come up with some suggestions if you do some research, but be careful to choose reputable sites. Is there an online support group for people with your condition who may have ideas? Most illnesses and conditions have a charity type organisation who can provide support. I would also ask your doctor if there is anything else you can take, and also ask him before taking anything new.

I have several autoimmune disorders. I have found since taking Vitamin D3 that my health has been a lot better. It boosts the immune system and, apparently, we could all benefit from this vitamin.

Zinc is supposed to help the immune system. Are you able to take that as a supplement, OP?

Yes. Mine was wiped by radiotherapy years ago. In theory, it should have built itself back up by now, but I still catch everything going.

Does D3 really work Framilode?

I had chemo a few years back and still catch almost every germ going. I wash my hands after bus rides - especially to hospital, touching eggs, using the dustbin, as well as the usual.
I take magnesium, iron and Vitamin D. I got a free pneumonia jab (but had to ask for it) and flu jab.
At the first sign of the sniffles I try to remember to take Boots' Flu Stop which I think helps.

Was it the chemo? I was told it my the radio that did it. NOT that it makes any difference. I'm still very susceptible even after 10 years.

I take D3 5000iu a day, b complex, vit c 2000mg, vit e 1000iu,
omega 3 2000 iu plus magnesium. I don't take Iron as my Iron is always high. I don't have a flu jab or Pneumonia jab. I take these after discussing it with my consultant, as literally anything can cause a reaction with my condition.
Do you use Health Unlocked I found it really helpful when I was first diagnosed as information was really hard to come by. I don't know if it covers your condition but it covers most.

Me too- Azothiaprine almost wiped out my white cells some years ago but it put me in remission so I'm stable now. I dont catch all the things I used to as I rarely mix with people on mass as I did when working e.g. tube trains, planes, meetings, conferences etc. The people I see know are mainly golfers (in the fresh air), we have no small family members now so no-one to bring home the lurgy from nursery. The only supplement I take is Vit D but my diet is heavy on fruit and veg.

I take Vitamin C with zinc in the winter, just in case, but very rarely get colds etc.

Touching wood here as the last time I had a cold was last Christmas and the Christmas before that, so I don't suppose I'm doing too badly but I can't have the preparations that are advertised because of my medication. I rely on a couple of paracetamol only and natures own remedy, honey and fresh lemons. Glad to say it's short-lived.#

I have an autoimmune condition that means my immune system is overactive. I cannot take vitamin D3 or have. Flu injection. Both make me very ill indeed. I am lucky that I don’t catch bugs often, though when I do, my immune system goes into overdrive and I get quite sick. Lots of foods and vitamins BOOST the system, so I have to be careful.

Thankyou Chestnut yes there is a support group, I have to have blood tests every few was for rest of my life, I do take vitamin D, but not a multivit which I’m thinking I really should do, I will ask my specialist what I can take, my dr really doesn’t know, I won’t have the flu jab as could cause reaction with the other autoimmune illness I have, yes flexiblefriend I use healthunlocked quite new to it, to be honest Hetty58 I haven’t taken zinci take vitD due to fact I’m on steroids for life thankyou everyone x

My son has been on azathioprine for his crohns disease for 10 years. He has been lucky in that he rarely gets colds or sickness. But if he does get something it tends to take a very long time to go due to his compromised immune system.

He does have the flu jab every year which has kept the flu away.
I have found help on facebook forums for my son with his crohns, is there a forum for you which could help point you in the right direction?

I’m not on Facebook CassieJ but I’m on healthunlocked , azathrioprine is a harsh drug but saying that it does help to try n control inflammation as do my steroids and I know I would be in much worse state if I didn’t take them, but like any drug there are lots of side effects

Try putting a jar of honey into a pan. Fill the honey jar with hot water twice add to pan. Slice two lemons into rings add to pan and heat gently until mix thickens slightly and lemon is soft and beginning to fall apart. Cool and sieve into a bowl. This can be taken by the spoon full or heated as a drink. Diluted to your taste. Hope it helps.

After seeing Doctor because of many, many symptoms, I had many hospital tests. At first, Sjogrens was suggested but ruled out after a lip biopsy. Then non-Hodgkins was suspected. Thank heaven, not. \I was cleared by the Consultant but am now at a loss. The professionals agree that my immune system is under attack but from what. I am at a loss as to what I can do to obtain a diagnosis - ME has been suggested by a friend. Do I see my GP again and ask for another referral to hospital. Your advice will be greatly welcomed.

Ngaio1 is your immune system under attack, or is your immune system attacking you? They are two very different things and treated very differently.

Mine was poor after chemo but improved now that I have been on vitamin D3 for a year or so.
