hearing aids

Good question aggie.
I've got hearing aids too (reluctantly) and read some of the leaflets.
Definitely take them out before washing your hair. and in the shower, to be on the safe side.
I don't wear mine all the time, my choice.
They've got tiny electric batteries which could be affected by water. The batteries in mine need changing weekly, whether I wear them or not.
The aids do help in certain situations.

I am a reluctant wearer too , but I am getting to be a real Mrs Malaprop , answering what I think I was asked , it is getting to the stage I opt out of conversations

I wear hearing aids all day every day and only remove them when I shower, wash my hair and go swimming. At the hair salon I pop them in my purse for safety.

Thanks CocoPops I was advised to wear them all day to get used to them , so far so good , but I can hear my hair rustling !

I hate having to wear one but nevertheless wear it all day except for shower/hair wash.

At the hairdresser, I remove it when ready to lean back for shampoo and replace as I sit up after shampoo. That way I maximise my chance of hearing the hairdresser though noise from other stylists wielding dryers doesn’t help.

I had some and not long ago. We were out in that really pouring rain we were having . I think the toggle of one of mine on my raincoat must have pulled its self off.
I now have to go and get it sorted on my insurance. We looked every where and inside the car . It is probably in a gutter now.
I now have to go to the house insurance to get a replacement.

Take them out for hair washing or hair dresser and at night and don’t leave them where the dog can eat them!.

They are tiny and I can see how they could get lost , it took me half anhour putting one in this am , as I have very little feeling in my hands but I will stick with it

I hadNHS one a while ago. Always take it out before shower, hairdresser, swimming etc.
It would be replaced without insurance faff too!
I was advised to wear it ALL day so my (poor!) brain could readjust-very strange to begin with as you say, felt like I had a stalker over my shoulder. Much better now except. . .my ear is beginning to stick out☹️

Another problem I've just remembered -
Mine have a little plastic plug which goes right into my ear. Attached by a filament to the part that goes behind the ear.
One day in the first week I removed the aid, and the plug had gone. I hoped it hadn't got stuck down inside my ear, but TG found it on the floor later. I went back to the shop and she fitted a larger plug.
I asked what to do if the plug does get stuck inside and she said "Go to A&E"

Yep, take them out at the hairdressers, in the shower, when swimming etc.
It can take anything up to a month to get used to them (a bit like when you have a new prescription in your specs) but if you do have any problems, always go back to see the audiologist for it to be dealt with - don't stop wearing them and moan about them! Hearing aids often need adjustment from time to time.
