Hammer Toes.

my friend had a couple of hammer toes that were quite bad, they hurt terribly when she wore shoes - so she had surgery on them, The type of surgery she had involved plates and pins I think, the toes were straight but had very little movement in them - no bendability.

I think there is another type of surgery involving the ligaments to straighten the toe out, an ortho surgeon would know which surgery is best for you

My feet are the same calendargirl. Apparently they were curled like fists when I was born. Advice to my parents was to leave well alone unless my feet stopped me walking. Well, they didn’t but I had considerable pain which was ‘normal’ to me as I knew nothing else. Gradually the toes have straightened a little and dont usually hurt now. As you say, there is considerable envy of those with straight toes and good toe nails. There certainly is surgery available, I’ve never investigated it for myself but know others who have benefitted. Why not ask your GP? I’ve decided there’s no need for me now, while there is no pain I’m leaving my feet alone.

Probably because they don’t hurt I have never sought advice. Also wary of surgery for anything that is not strictly necessary. Will see if they get any worse.

My podiatrist gave me some special tape to wind around 3 toes which has straightened out my toe enough to stop it being painful. Worth a try.

Look on Amazon as I think they might sell them there.

My third one bent under the second one on my right foot; I always felt it but when it got painful I opted for surgery years agoo. It was straightened and pinned.
The pins were taken out eventually.
It's not as mobile as the other toes but much better now.

I had surgery for mine as well as large bunions a few years ago. Sadly the pins have moved now and they need to be re done. I would see a good podiatrist for regular treatment and advice you may avoid surgery altogether.
