Valuing the NHS

There are always long waits in our GP surgery, I always wonder how much longer we would have to wait if everyone turned up. We should value the NHS more, but it is creaking and the cracks are showing as you will see if you have to use it on a long term basis. NI should be increased to make improvements to the service.

If they had a least called to cancel, the appointments could have been sent to others on the list.

Sadly the mammogram may on one or more of the 'no shows' have at the very least set the person on a road of life saving treatment.

As for bowel cancer check I had to chivy DH along, thankfully all was fine.
Unfortunately not so for a male who is receiving treatment.

We should all take responsibility for our health.

I am not sure how a 'No show' fee could be implemented.

If only people were made to realise that when their body goes wrong, it's free to be put right. Abroad it's a different matter as they either have to pay at source or else are forced to join a scheme like Medicash or a BUPA related organisation.

Why do so many abuse our system ??

Absolutely agree with you on that one kitty! I just don’t get it either. I understand that some folk have very chaotic lifestyles and are not what I call “diary keepers” but actually that’s really a small minority of the general population. So it makes me wonder who it is who misses their appointments? I’m all for prevention and screening and take everything that’s offered, unlike my mum who’s attitude used to be “I don’t want anyone poking around these places... in case they find something!”

I think it's terrible. We hear/read about queues in waiting rooms, A&E waiting times and all the other things damning our NHS but we rarely see headlines about the 100's who don't turn up for appointments ! These DNA's could have been filled by those who are/were willing to attend.
It needs highlighting, constantly.
