Taking Piriton if taking Ramipril for blood pressure

Avon’s Skin So Soft is also a great repellent for the Scottish midge....mountain/climbing shops sell it in the Highlands. Don’t know if it’s effective on other bugs though!

Going slightly off the topic but, after reading on GN about the dry cough that Ramipril can lead to, I suggested DH discuss it with his GP. Result change of medication and goodbye constant cough. We were very grateful to Grans for bringing up the subject.

I’ve just taken delivery of 4 bottles of Mosquito Milk , bought online from Chemist Direct. We’ve never had one bite in Greece, and it even deters the Scottish midge!

Thanks everyone for the advice. My SIL got a bite which made her face swell quite a lot. It was quite late so pharmacies were closed. Those who said they took antihistamine with blood pressure medication were reassuring. She took the Piriton and it stopped the inflammation getting worse.

My advice is also to talk to a pharmacist. They probably are better informed about medications than GPs

I am on Ramipril and my GP prescribes antihistamine - Loratidine, which is less likely to make you drowsy. I've just had antihistamine nasal spray added and no mention of issues with Ramipril.

I am still in the UK but have been bitten already this year.

If there are contra-indications ( and I am not aware of any) then use insect repellent and, if bitten, Anthisan or Fucidin cream.

Go to a pharmacist, they all speak English, my DH is on both with no problems

My GP slapped blood pressure medication onto my prescription last week. He knows I take chlorphenamine regularly (because he prescribes that too). I think he would have told me if I needed to be careful about the anti-histamine.

I am not aware of any contraindication as I take these myself and they don't act on the same body systems but you could check with a local pharmacist.
